I recently picked up a Schrade 8OT which differs from those I've seen before.

Description of Differences:

- "Match-strike" nail nick on main blade
- Top edges of main blade are contoured
- Highly polished baldes
- Pen blade in place of sheepsfoot
- Scales have a more red hue than I'm accustomed to

Markings:

- Shield deeply stamped "OLD TIMER"
- Main Blade (front)
Schrade
Walden
N.Y. U.S.A
- Main Blade (back)
8OT

I'm not sure what I've got here.....
- Regular production?
- Factory special issue?
- After maket modification?

Any help identifying this knife will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
- Hank

I think that I already posted about this one - the time frame and the fact that they were never made with a pen blade.

Can you post a picture? It is unusual for the older Schrades to have "High polished" blades....is this on all surfaces of all blades? If so, it may have been polished out recently....can you tell if the handles are bone or plastic?

You did indeed reply to my post on the "other" forum. Thanks! However, since you were the only one to reply, I thought I would solicit input here as well.

A picture is attached.....

If it turns out to be just a case of aftermarket modifications as we both suspect, it's going to spend some time on the EdgePro and become an EDC.....which is why I picked it up in the first place.

Thanks again,
- Hank

HBW,
My guess is they are factory blades having been buffed out. I think I can make out buffer swirl marks on the main blade. Probably someone like me wanting to get the black spots off the high carbon blades before putting it away. The rear blade shape has been altered by grinding/buffing. You can usually tell by looking at the tang. if you see swirling its been buffed out.
Still looks like a great S/W.
