Caught the tale end of a tv show the other night wherein scientists were testing all sorts of unusual things that had sharp edges and could cut. Things like paper, blades of grass, pieces of egg shell, edges of leaves, etc. It was surprising how sharp what we consider to be 'soft' material could be and have a near razor-like cutting edge.
Another interesting item on the show was the nose or proboscis of a mosquito. Seem those little nasties have a serrated beak which is very sharp and 'slices' into you rather than puncturing so you don't feel it. Some medical company has designed a new hypodermic needle based on the configuration of a mosquito's beak and it supposedly provides painless injections. Interesting to say the least.
