I just received one of Chris knives in the mail today. A Yataghan Cutter. I have to say I am amazed at this piece. CHRIS IS ONLY 21! and he is making a knife like this already. All I can say is wow.

Here are a few pics..

Specs on this knife are as follows.
16"OAL
11" blade 1/4" at the widest point, Distal Tapered
Forged W2 Blade Steel with Active Hamon ( difficult to photograph in the bright light today ) with parks #50 quench
Phillip Patton Damascus Bolsters
Carved Ebony Handle with Hidden Pins
Hand Rubbed polish 2000 Grit.

This boy knows how to grind and put a knife together..more pics..

above pic looks wierd like grind is off further up the blade but its a optical illusion with the polish of the blade and the pitiful optics on my camera..kind of a cool shot though..

I have encouraged Chris to join the ABS program. This guy needs to become a MS. I think he has got a true talent.

I think it's WWRD.

See it found your abode, Ren.

From seeing the pics. . . .you're right, Chris does have talent !

Nice wheeled canon ! Plan on knocking buildings down ? :D

That's a really elegant piece - this maker has some real skills and comes across as a super nice guy as well. Congrats on the new piece.

Chris is rockin this knifemaking thing. I look forward to coming here and seeing what he's up to.

I've been watching this guy progress for the past couple of years. Here is an example of a guy who's using the internet to its full advantage in getting educated. Young guy like him can consult the luminaries, totally bypass an apprenticeship and develop his artistic language while producing top quality knives that he may be making something of a living producing.
At the rate the young talent is developing, and with the means at their fingertips to gain more information than has ever been available in one place before, I wonder about the fate of organizations such as the ABS. I wonder what they're doing to appeal to this new generation of knifemaker87?

The ABS is very appealing to me as a young new knifemaker. I don't think they have to do anything. It's a respect thing. To be recognized by the ABS is the dream of alot of young makers.

That's cool! I was glad to read your post:)

Ren told me about this guy over the phone last week. After seeing this piece, he was dead on. (What would I expect).

Wonderful execution of that grind and the hamon to boot! Simply stunning work he did....nice score Ren! Have any zombies to kill? :D

i would have to agree here.. It is a status thing.. yeah there are great makers that arnt int he ABS.. but to say "i have been tested by teh ABS and found acceptible.." that is HUGE

especially for someone who hasn't ever worked with anybody else.. or under anybody else, that sort of recognition is PRICELESS.

And thanks for all the kind comments.

Guy's you need to get one of his blades now. Because when that MS stamp goes on the price will go up and the waiting list will be long. JM2C
