Up-and-Down wiggle.

Hello! New user here...I've been lurking for a while, but haven't posted yet...

I figured this would be as good a spot as any for this question - many, many apologies if I've misplaced it or it's been discussed already.

I just got a Benchmade 520 Presidio, plain edge. When I got it out of the box, there was noticeable blade wiggle, both up-and-down and side-to-side. The side-to-side wiggle was easily rectified with a torx driver, but I haven't been able to do anything about the up-and-down wiggle. The wiggle is barely noticeable and definitely doesn't seem to affect the knife's function - I just expected better for a knife with a 200$ price tag (Canadian knife prices are highway robbery!).

I sent Benchmade an e-mail, but they have yet to send me any information or advice...

My question is this: This is my first Axis-lock knife. Is this tiny amount of blade wiggle normal? Will it worsen? If anyone knows of anything I could do to fix this without voiding the warranty, I'd greatly appreciate their advice.

Thanks!

There shouldn't be any discernable up and down blade movement.

There are ways to fix these things ones self, but I don't know your mechanical aptitude, so...

Try a few hard openings, i.e. high inertial openings, to see if things seat in. Sometimes this works. BTW - I don't recommend such opening practice as ones "normal" way of opening a knife.

Maybe someone else will chime in with alternatives.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn't seem to have worked...

There should be no vertical play in a knife with an Axis lock. You should probably send it back.

Well, as long as your stateside, email them (as you have done) and you'll probably end up sending it in for repair/fixing.

These things do happen occasionally, unfortunately.

Alright, thanks for the advice, guys.

I'll try to get in touch with Benchmade again and see if I can't send it back to them.

Again, thanks for the help!

It usually takes a bit of time before they get back via email, as in days sometimes.

So don't stress it.

BM seems to take a long time with emails. Maybe high volume, or too few staff to check, don't know.

During business hours, they pick right up when you call them, and are quite good with answering questions or warranty concerns.
