Folder or fixed? What intended use? I've gotten fixed blades in traditional patterns from several makers here and it has always been an enjoyable experience with a very fine end product at very reasonable prices. And it would be difficult to pick one over the other without a pattern in mind.
Here is a recent Darrin Sanders piece, his design of a larger than original Sharpfinger.
And here is another related pattern by Ryan Weeks, his SPK pattern with much fancier materials, mammoth ivory, bog oak and a silver dollar spacer.
Here is another nostalgia pattern, a riff on the 1902 Marbles Ideal (I named this oone Elvis) done by Maker David Stifle.
You can have pretty much anything you can imagine in about any price range you can afford, while having a personal say in the design and materials. Not to mention making a new friend. Oh... one more? My oldest custom done a few years back by Bryan Breeden, his rendition of the old early 1900's Marbles Dal DeWeese. The blade has a deep dark patina and the redwood burl handle has darkened nearly black. This picture was when it was new in 2008.
Bret Dowell. He's certainly more on the established side, and has the waiting list to prove it, but his knives are still incredibly reasonably priced and his quality is as good as anyone I have seen. The way I see it he is producing absolutely top tier work but his prices are at more of a second tier level still.
There's a good number of excellent knife makers that are BladeForums Knife Maker Members that post right here in this sub-forum. Some are newer then others. Some have already been mentioned. I'd prefer not to try and make a list as I'll surely, unintentionally, leave someone out.
Spend some time here and you'll see their threads and knives pop up in the posts.
We'd prefer that non member makers be recommended via email and not in the discussion threads. Thanks!
