Upcoming article in nature

Sounds interesting. I don't read Nature much - too technical usually for a non-pro! But I for one would appriciate it if you would post more info when available.

The most interesting example of that type of corrosion I've seen was were I used to work. A 316 SS fitting was lost in a drain that just happened to be the drain exhausted dichromate cleaning solution (potassium dichromate and concentrated sulfuric acid) was dumped in. The fitting looked like swiss cheese, lots of little holes. I'll have to see if I can find it, might be interesting to see how it scans.

On a similar note, Scientific American's website, www.sciam.com has an "Ask the Experts" section. In either the chemistry or physics section, I can't remember, there is a simplified explanation of why stainless steel is "stainless".
