All: on 12/20/99 my trial against my Sheriff in California is ON. This'll be a non-jury trial, I'm the plaintiff, I'll have lots of attorney "prep help" beforehand but no actual lawyers with me in the courtroom.
Despite that, I've got a real good chance of kicking large amounts of posterior. The issue is corruption, elitism and bias in gun carry permit (CCW) issuance.
What I'd like to do is open two threads a day or two before trial, one for "general discussion of the case" including feedback and questions, and one for live updates by me via laptop and wireless modem right in court on breaks. I'll probably have other local activists in the bleachers so if I'm too busy to report, one of them can use my rig and do so. The "live update" thread mustn't be overloaded because it'll be monitored by the local media, national-level NRA people and God knows who else. The very first message there will be a link to my trial brief, which by then must go to the opposition and Judge anyhow and will act as a "program guide" to the festivities.
These URLs will then be broadcast on a huge number of mailing lists, usenet groups and other web forums before trial. Glocktalk, Firingline, AR15, AK47, Tacticalforums, gunspot, talk.politics.guns, CA-firearms, MA-Firearms, WA-CCW, ConcealedGeneral, plus people will forward it god knows where. I need to know if 100,000 hits just to these two threads over a 2-day period is liable to crash the server and/or UBB! And yes, that kind of traffic is possible here, nobody has taken on the CA CCW issue in quite this fashion.
Second, if BF can handle it, then I need moderator access to the threads. They really belong in Politics, so I guess I'm asking for temporary moderator rights to Politics starting approx. 12/16 or so - I'll only use it on the two trial-related threads. Since I'll be busy with the trial itself as well, I could use some "backup" over there, either extra attention from Spark and Mike or a couple of volunteer moderators to keep chitchat off the "live update" thread and flames off the trial discussion thread which may get *enormous* and/or attract newbies who'll need more moderation than normal.
If BF can't take that much sudden hit then we'll figure something else out, it's not a problem. But I need to get this mostly planned out over the next week or so.
THANX!
If you're interested in showing up in person, the fun starts at 8:30AM in the Contra Costa County Superior Court building, Martinez branch, Department 13, Judge Richard Patsey presiding. EMail me for directions. A good crowd would be neat so long as NO CAMOS
