I've been getting too many emails asking for more deals of the day, Yangdu's specials, blems, etc. and I see a couple of posts in the forum asking the same so I thought I'd better make an explanation post.
Well, good news. Starting today or tomorrow we'll have the deals going up again.
The reason no deals went up the last couple of days is this. One of my old school mates (best friends from grade 2 to grade 12) , Bill Janeski, is here for a long weekend visit. When Bill learned of my heath status some months back he hopped on an airplane and came to Reno for a day or two visit. We had such a great time we decided to do it again and here he is. And, I'm sure that there will be more visits on the calendar.
Bill and I attended school in Cherokee, KS and seemed destined from grade 2 to become good friends. We had classes together, played basketball, football and ran track together, went to the Methodist Church and participated in church events together, joined the Boy Scouts and participated in scouting activities together, drank beer and chased girls together, joined the Navy Reserve together and went on active duty together but didn't serve together -- Bill's ship ended up in Korea, mine got lost.
After the Navy Bill sort of settled down in the Wash, DC area and I wandered but we never totally lost touch and here we are today playing the "do you remember game" and generally having a wonderful time enjoying each other's company. It's great to learn that 50 years cannot diminish a fine, strong friendship but greater yet to be able to enjoy that friendship on a real, live flesh and blood personal level and we are reminded what a valuable and wonderful thing a strong friendship is. They are so rare. Pity.
I count myself as being one of the luckiest men in the world to have 4 or 5 old friends like Bill. It has only happened once or twice since he's been here but when Bill and I run low on topics to talk about we just sort of look at each other, smile, chuckle a little, and one of us will say, "ain't this great."
The experts say that there is a healing effect put in motion by seeing and visiting old friends and I'm here to tell you that sometimes the experts are right. I feel better today than I have in six months thanks to Bill.
I'm spending as much time as I can enjoying my old pal but Bill leaves at noon today and this means it will be back to business as usual so be on the watch for the usual Christmas specials.
I'll try to get a pix of Bill put up today. He's not the handsome, dashing, fiery redhead of 50 years ago but he's sure as hell taken better care of himself than I have.
End of story and thanks for patience and understanding.
Stay tuned!
Here's a picture of Bill and I in our senior high school play in 1951. Play was "Our Miss Brooks" a school oriented takeoff on a popular TV show of the era. I'm the guy on the far right, Bill next to me. I'll try to get a pix of us today so we can laugh at the then and now comparison.
