Just wanted to let everyone know what has been going on lately!
I went to IU Med Center in Indianapolis last week for CT scan & other tests as a pre-screening for an experimental drug study. Unfortunately, the CT scan showed severl blood clots (pulminary embolyus) in my lungs. I was driving home on the freeway, and the oncologist called my cell phone and said I must turn around to be admitted to IU and begin blood thinners IMMEDIATELY! This caught me completely off-guard and scared me to death, since I know that blood clots in your lungs can be fatal. Driving with tears in my eyes, I found my way back to IU. They kept me overnight and started me on injections of Lovenox (a blood thinner), twice a day. Chuck is now giving me 3 injections daily, including my insulin. So, hopefully, we have this issue taken care of. The blood clots, however, have disqualified me from the experimental study.
On Tuesday, Sept. 29, I go back to IU to have an access "port" put in my chest. I was able to have the "PICC" line removed last week upon leaving the hospital. After receiving the port, I will begin new chemotherapy treatments on October 1st. I will travel to IU for these treatments. I'm hoping that the new chemo won't make me too sick this winter, and that I don't have to spend another Christmas bald!! I am back to work at the bank for 3 days each week. I hope to be able to keep working after I go on the chemo.
(An afterthought... anyone that has a cool hat or turban or sometype of head covering that they want to "donate" for my winter supply, can send them to me! Maybe I'll get something really interesting, and can post some pics of me in the "head gear" for your review!) Send me a PM for my address.
A second afterthought..... Should I make it some type of contest and see who can send me the most interesting hat that I can wear??
Thanks to everyone for your prayers & support.
