Update on dying stabilized wood

This is mesquite wood stabilized by K&G. The top knife is the natural color. The second knife has a alcohol red dye. the third knife has a water based walnut dye. I used a Q tip to apply the die then applied three coats of Tru Oil.
These handles were all buffed afterwards.
The picture didn't show the red and brown handles as good as they really look.

You’ve convinced me. I hope some spalted pecan I just got back will take in the same manner.
Was it RIT dye and alcohol?

The brown dye was Birchwood Casey Walnut Stain water base. The red was Tandy Pro Dye Cordovan alcohol.
I don't guarantee this to work with all stabilized woods but it did work with the stabilized mesquite that i had.

That looks good Tom, I have some Box Elder stabilized with cactus juice I will try this summer. It’s not nearly as dense as mesquite, so it should take dye well.
