And now the rest of the story.

I just got off the phone with the guys at knifemart about these and I'm passing on some info. According to current thought, the first batch of 35 will hopefully ship at the end of the week/or early next week. Followed by the next batch of 35 a week or so later thn followed by the third batch. The blades for these are done, the holdup was evidentally with machining one of the retangular slots on the side of the handles. Ohh as to the weight I beleive I was told it's currently aroung 8.8 oz.

Yep, i'm waiting too.

Talked to them today, and they are saying mid-late next week. They are as anxious as everyone who ordered one.

Just talked to Richard..., and none have been shipped yet. They are working out some handle dynamics with a subcontractor, and expect to get the first 35 out "soon". :) Richard said..."I'd rather be a little off target on delivery and have them perfect"....works for me!
"Hunters seek what they [WANT]...., Seekers hunt what they [NEED]"

.....finding out they canned the whole project! He's stated more than once that the knives wouldn't be delivered unless they were perfect. I can appreciate that and will gladly wait for a product of that nature.

...All they really need to do is get just one Monarch perfect and deliver that one to me pronto. :D

This is getting to be exciting. Which will come out first? The Monarch or the Tachyon? The race is on!

Just kidding. Note to both manufacturers: Quality is Job One.

I spoke to Knifemart today and from what I understand all that is left is the laser etching on the blades. Apparently they're going to be marked Monarch, 1st Production Run. The approximate shipping date for the first batch is now September 4th. The suspense is killing me! Be that as it may, I'm confident these pieces will be more than worth the wait. Thanks!

Oh no! It's going to be marked 1st production run?

Now I'm going to be faced with the the dilemma: to flip or to not flip?
Nice problem to have, I would think. :D

Talked to Richard today at Knifemart and he said, he will have 25-75 Monarchs ready to ship next Thursday/Friday. He had several completed, but was not pleased with the finish on the inside of the handle channels so, he returned all the handles to have them bead blasted inside for a nicer finish. Also, the latch will be attached by a slot head screw, and be interchangable from handle to handle for Batangas, or Manila style. The play in the latch when installed is less than 0.001" Very nice! Also, The big news is, they are making 25 titanium handled models with Talonite blades as we speak. No price as of yet on the Ti models. :)

Some more info hot off of the press..........The stainless handled knives weigh .865 pounds (a touch over 8 ounces :)) and the ti handled knives weigh .494 pounds (not quite half as much at around 5 ounces :D). The jury is still out on the number of Talonite bladed knives since the raw material for the blades is over $80 each and depending on whether the blanks are laser cut, or cut by a water jet, it will add another few $$$'s to the equation. I can assure you that when the Ti/Talonite balis come down the pike that your ol' buddy Dawkind will have one! There probably will be a few Ti handled, ATS34 bladed knives in that run, too. It's getting close to 'CHRISTMAS EARLY TIME!' :D:D:D

Thanks for the update, Dawkind! I told Richard to put me down for one of the titanium versions as well, though I'm not too familiar with talonite. BTW, I still can't seem to email you; they keep getting returned undelivered. Drop me a line if you get the chance, and have a great weekend!
