Hi all. If you remember I posted a 'help me' a few days ago unsure if my brand new knife was broken. I couldn't get it to open at all with the thumb stud. Once the detent was defeated by partially opening the blade the knife was fine and smooth.
The detent was apparently just too darn tight!
My new hero Bobnery suggested I open the blade a bit and let it set. The blade will press on the detent and accelerate the break in. He thought all the knife needed was just to break in.
Boy was he ever right! I left the knife sit with the blade open partially but not all the way to lock. Two days almost it was left alone and that was difficult to do! I would pick it up and just move the blade to maybe 45* or 75* or 90* then sit it back down.
Now? I can position my fingers anywhere I want on the knife and it still springs to life easily when I thumb it awake. It makes a very satisfying "clack" as it locks up. It is lightning quick and velvety smooth.
This knife had nothing wrong with it at all. It just needed a little break in time!
Thank you Bobnery, and thank you Thomas and others for reaching out to me. I could not be happier in how this 551 is working out.
Zero Tolerance is my new best knife company!
I have owned Striders and do own a lot of other knives and this 551 is simply the finest I have yet owned!
