Update on the superfrog.

Well, it looks like BASBARI CHALA KARKHANA leather factory where we purchased our prototype super frogs is shut down for good. Don't know for sure what happened but Gelbu tells me the doors are closed for good.

Solution: Gelbu is buying a heavy duty sewing machine quite capable of stitching heavy leather and our sarkis will make the superfrog and other frogs themselves.

This is very good news I think. I have never liked the riveted versions. The sarkis get in a hurry and sometimes rivet where there is no matching leather to be rivited together. They sometimes are supplied with low quality rivets, prong type, and the prongs tend to break. Stitching is stronger, generally lasts longer, and looks better.

In the very near future, superfrogs on all khukuris from BirGorkha.

It's unfortunate that the leather factory closed, but I think in the long run it will be better that the frogs are made "in house." This way HI will have more control over the finished product. But as I said on another thread, the frogs that have recently been coming out have been very good for the most part.

Steven, I think you are right. I'll be happy to see the last of those rivets. Never did like them but lived with them for a very long time.

I'll be eager to see what the sarkis do with their new sewing machine.
