Well, I'm back from a two week road trip around beautiful Nova Scotia where I broke in my new unstamped BK9. I went back and forth about using it or keeping it pristine and considered all of your advice from the previous thread but ultimately decided to make it a user. Since we camped in Provincial Parks where "pruning" foliage is strongly frowned upon, I didn't get to hack any branches off but I did do a boatload of batoning firewood, shaping batons for said batoning (or as my partner likes to call them, "whacking sticks") and generally messing around with dead wood etc. As luck would have it, my partner was on the ball and she got a pic of me using the knife for the very first time.
Splitting firewood at our first campsite of the trip. Sorry its a little blurry.
Late in the evening when the very last of the wood was put on the fire. The previously mentioned "Whacking Stick" is on top.
Here is how it looks after two weeks use. I was surprised that the coating held up so well! Not too bad and its still pretty darn sharp!
Of course now I'm thinking about stripping the coating off and making some nice wood scales. I've also been reading up on forcing patinas so we'll see what comes of it.
Cheers!
