Here is my latest completed knife.

Specs: 9.5" OAL
5" blade
1095/15N20 Damascus Twist Pattern
Desert ironwood sculpted scales
1/4" SS/Copper Mosaic Pins

This is a knife I call the "Bull Pup". I am not sure why, but the name seems to fit. It is a stout, sturdy knife with a very grippable sculpted handle. The blade is deeply etched, then lightly buffed for aesthetic effect as well as rust resistance. The grain on this ironwood is great, with lots of contrast and lines. This knife was interesting because I wanted an etched exposed tang. I did not want to contaminate the scales with Fecl, so I etched frist, then finished the scales to near final polish, so that the pattern was not affected by final sanding and finishing.

This knife feels great in the hand and just asks to be picked up.
This is the first knife I have made coming off my new KMG, and I am thrilled with its performance so far!

looks great Tictock. Nice shaped handle and the steel and wood do each other justice.

Thanks!
I like how this one came out. It was my first larger piece. I need to take some perspective pics because it is quite a handful! The ironwood came out fantastic. I like how I was able to make the grain flow over the spine.

I need to put a final edge on this and make a sheath. I hope I can make a sheath to do it justice!

I am having one heck of a time pricing this thing. Would a few makers PM me what they would charge, just to see if what I am thinking is in the right ballpark? I rarely use damascus and scales of this quality.

You do excellent work, Tik. Truly a beautiful blade! What grit did you finish the handle to, and did you use any sort of polishing compound, or finish wax on it?

Did you get permission from MercWorx knives for their "Chile" handle design?

Ive never heard of MercWorx....so I guess the answer is no.

:)

I can't imagine the design is anything unique. I came up with this out of function and experimentation.

*edit* just checked out MercWorx website. I dont see any similarities other than their having handles on their knives. Totally different swell, forward groove, completely different front scale fit, materials, tubular pins....geometry seems very different.

Post me a pic! Id be interested to see wat they arrived at that seems similar to mine. From what I've seen, they make tacticals....this is hardly a tactical handle by design.

Where's the smiley face to go along with this question?

This handle doesn't look anything like the Mercworx Chile handle. It looks like all of his other knife handles.

Did you cut your wood block with a saw blade the same thickness as the tang? It looks like the grain pattern continues nicely on each side.
