Tom,
I will send you a check also. I know it is for a good cause and your friendship and integrety mean a lot to me.
Take care.

thought I better post something before we lose it .like to thank the two people who have shown they care about children who won't get a goodnight kiss from their dad, and a wife and mother facing an uncertain future

Tom, I posted this and will do it again here if it helps. Come on folks. Not everyday we have a chance to help someone who really needs it. For those that dont know, we lost a fine man, Shane Ivie. I am setting up a fund for the family as he had 5 kids and a wife who will need some help at this time. All the money will be sent to Kathy Ivie in the form of a postal money order. My paypal account is same as my e-mail. dangraves4923@earthlink.net For those who want to mail it my address is 4887 Dixie Garden Loop, Shreveport, La 71105 I plan on sending a postal money order and flowers or a small plant. Will not spend much on flowers as I think the kids need it more. Any amount will help and all that send a donation will be listed on the card. Lets show the family what the knifemaker community thought of him. May he rest in peace as he will be missed here.

You are a good man for taking this task on, Dan. You are giving generously of not only your own money but your time and effort. God Bless you and thank you.

This is the first I've heard of this news -- I'll get something sent out.

Thanks for the jump-start,Dan.I know Shane had a lot of friends on TKN as well as Bladeforums. With the combined effort of both camps,we can do a lot to ease that family's suffering.God bless you all.

for an update,I'm still working this corner with my tin cup for donations to Shane's family. No,it's not lonely here,so far 278 people have walked by.(some of you have given, and for that I am truly thankful.

Tom
Thanks for your good heart.
TNK has just started auctions with Donated knives for Shane.
Take a look.

Shane's brother called the shop today. He talked to my wife...I wish I had a chance to talk to him. His brother expressed that he would like to sell Shane's KMG. I just looked through my records and this machine is 1 yr old, has a Platen attachment and small wheel fork with a handful of small wheels. I don't know any of the details about the machine..or how to buy it. I just know that Shane's brother wants to sell it. So, all I can do at this point, is pass the info on. I wish I had more..but that's all I know. Hopefully he will call back....I got the impression that he doesn't know what to do with this stuff, but is trying to raise money for the family.

OK, finally got to me. I didn't know Shane (I'm new to the forums), but between the pictures of his kids on his website and all the comments here, it's obvious he was a wonderful guy. The thought of his brother scambling to sell his equipment to raise cash for the family -- it really underlines what a tragedy it is when a young father dies. Paypal sent to Dan.

Thanks Chant, like to encourage the newer members to give, also.it's as much a part of Knife making as any of it.I look at it as payback for some of the info I've gotten on Bladeforums and TKN .

Hope it's not too late, I shot some Paypal your way Dan.

I look at it that way too. I've only just begun, and I know that all the info I've gleaned here has already saved me hundreds of dollars by directing me to proper equipment, and hundreds more by helping me learn fast, so I'm not screwing up and destroying expensive materials over and over. I have no doubt that, by the time I've made my 30th knife, all the seasoned experience and advice I've gotten here will have saved me several thousand dollars, a LOT of time, and a LOT of frustration. And helped me avoid shop accidents, exposure to toxic substances etc. etc. There are books and videos available, and they are a really big help -- but the best help comes directly from the makers (and others involved in metallurgy) via these forums. So...I'm pitching in and paying a little back.

Rob,

I just started e-mailing Cody. Hopefully more information will be coming about what they want to sell. There is also another member that has volunteered to help sort through the knife making equipment and help them get it up for sale so they get a fair price.

I will keep this board updated as I get more info. And as Darrel said, the auction started with some of his designs.

Dan
Sent you some money for the family, wished i could send more. Something like this gets a person to thinking about your own family. This is also a good thing, that people that didn't know Shane, are also doing this to help out his family.

Thanks,Ricky. All donations are definitly appreciated.let's give as we've received, folks.I know a lot of us have something to be thankful for.
