**UPDATE**Would Sal ever consider another lock type for the Para 2?

I think the Para 2 might just be the nicest looking knife design that Spyderco offers. On the occasions that I've handled them in stores and at shows though, I haven't been overly wowed by its compression lock. At the very least, it's a bit awkward to manipulate with one hand. Thus the question, do you think Sal will offer any future runs of the Para 2 with a different lock type? A Ti framelock certainly wouldn't hurt my feelings at all. I could even get behind a liner lock or lockback design.

I think you might need to spend a little more time with the compression lock. I wasn't real sure about it @ first but after playing with it for a a few hours I got the hang of it and was able to flip the blade closed with one hand without a problem. In fact I can close me para 2 just as quick and easy as my axis lock benchmade knives. Just like with the axis lock there is absolutely know way that you can get your fingers in the way while disengaging the lock and closing the blade. I love the lock. I think it kicks ass!

comp. lock is the best lock ever...so easy with one hand. just takes a day or two of carry to get used to

completely agree, it takes some getting used to but I find it to be a joy to manipulate one handed. Its one I can just sit and play with without thinking about it.

+3. The compression lock is one of the strongest locks available and I can easily flip the knife open and closed with my right hand similar to an AXIS lock. Left hand might be a little more difficult but I'm not left handed so I don't know. I didn't really like the feel of the lock on the Para 1 but the 2 is very simple to use and took about a minute to learn to flip open and closed with ease. I still like the AXIS lock the most but the newer compression locks aren't far behind it.

Aside from the Ball Bearing lock and AXIS lock the Compression lock is my favorite. It is ridiculously strong and you can flick it open and closed with one hand. Liner locks are weak and having a Ti framelocking version might be nice but I feel like it would ruin the feather light feel of the Para2 that makes it so special. I could get behind a BB lock on the para 2 but then again I wish every spyderco knife had the BB lock. Just give it some time it will grown on you.

It would be nice to see the Para 2 incorporate different locks, kind of like they are doing on the Sage series. Call it the Para 2.1, 2.2 etc.

I've got a Digi-Cam/Satin Para 2 that should be here tomorrow. I'm excited and this thread isn't helping. I wouldn't mind a Frame-lock Para 2, but I've just never been a back-lock fan. Maybe I just need to buy some more back-lock models? :D

TS--Do you own a comp lock, or have you just messed with it at shows/dealers? I'll bet a backlock was awkward to operate the first time too, but with use, you get over it.

Buy a Para 2, use it, it will no longer be awkward. I doubt we will ever see it in another lock, and hope we don't. The comp lock rocks.

The comp lock is uber strong, and very easy to operate one-handed if you know how to do it. Watch some video reviews of the Para 2, you will see how people do it. I personally even bought a Superleaf just for the comp lock, because it has all the traits of a good lock IMO-super strong, lightweight, simple, and easy to operate.

Relax..notice that TS does NOT own the model. Meaning he hasn't had any time to get used to the comp lock. Don't worry about it, like I said, if you're not sure how to close it easily one handed, watch a review video. It's easy as heck. I find the comp lock to be one of the easiest to use locks in existence.

Stop worrying, and enjoy your Para! It is an amazing knife.

I have been carrying a Para 2 for about a week and the comp lock is really growing on me. I am a lefty so I had my concerns about it, but the more I use it the easier is seems to get. Obviously the lock was made for right hand operation so it is much easier to use with the right hand. For me the only difficulty about operating it left handed is that I have to use my thumb to push the tab which really doesn't allow much grip on the rest of the knife. I hold my hand palm up with the knife sitting across my fingers when I push the lock tab with my thumb. I think I would risk dropping it if I tried to close it in a regular cutting orientation.

In my opinion, it wouldn't even be a Para if it didn't have the compression lock. The comp lock is what makes a Para a Para.

I've had the Digi-Cam/Coated Para2 for a few weeks. Its a very sturdy, sharp and great folder. You won't be disappointed. It only takes a day to get use to the backlock and its simple to use. Use the right thumb to open the blade and the same thumb to unlock it.

Man, you had me out on my porch waiting for my mail carrier. My Para 2 just got here and I am seriously impressed with this guy. The compression lock was a bit different, but since I'm addicted to these stupid things, I have continuously played with it and now that I'm getting used to it, I really like it (the ball-detent on this thing is strong enough to pull a car behind me with a rope through the Spyder-hole and not open the knife though - it makes opening with the right-hand middle finger way harder than say on my PPT).

I have to admit, I'm way more impressed with this knife than I thought I would be. Bring on the Sprint Manix II next - I'm an addict!

Edited to add - I never fully understood how the compression lock worked until getting one in my hands - this thing is stout-looking. The "liner" as I'll call it fits in between a stud on the frame and the blade-tang. And to add to that, on the opposite side of the stud, is the other side of the cutout in the blade-tang. This thing can't move either way and its held solidly to the frame of the knife (more so than a liner-lock).

This is a very cool design - who designed the compression lock and where can I find more info about it (more info than Edge-Ucation provides)

When I got my para2, I pulled it out of the box and absolutely loved the knife, but hated the lock. I was tempted to just get rid of it. BUT I decided to carry it a bit and give it a chance, boy am I glad I did. The compression lock is wonderful once you get it through your head that it's really not that awkward. My para2 is ten fold my most carried knife now, and I love the compression lock on it.

+1

I almost passed on Lil T due to to lock. Love it now. Compression lock is my second favorite after midlock

I am another frame lock fan due to the fact that i like how my grip re-enforces the lock. I feel that the comp lock due to its position would become a hot spot with any sort of long days use.

I just took my out and flipped it everywhich way, I'm not sure how it would become a hotspot as the tab for the lock is slightly below the scale. From the inside edge of the scale to the outside edge of the lock tab is only 3.5-4mm.
