well all sorry i havent been in contact with all of you in a few days, but weve been cleaning up our apartment. The carpet is taken care of and the ceiling is being torn out in our flooded apartment. I yelled and yelled and got nowhere with anyone including the vice president of the company. so, im going to be more subtle and write letters and go from there. anyway, i thought id redirect my thoughts here to knives. Im workin on my first knife and i came up with what i think could be an nteresting idea for some knife pins. i wanted some pins to put in the handle of my first knife here. I wanted them to be stainless steel so i go to ace hardware and tell the associate what i was doing and needed. he had no stainless steel rods, only carbon, but had the idea of using a stainless steel bolt that hs threading on the very end but is smooth the rest of the way up. I bought two and cut the ends off and it makes a nice stainless steel pin im gonna use in my knife. any thoughts on this? is this somethin that cant work? thanks...

by the way, im going to attach them after i glue the handle on by sliding them through with some of the same epoxy on it i will use for the handle. is this acceptable? thanks!

What is the dia. you are using? You can buy stainless tig welding rod cheap. .125 or 1/8 is pretty common. You might be able to find it .187 or 3/16. It comes in three foot lengths. I bought a couple pounds, (about a dozen) 1/8 stainless tig rods for around ten bucks. I get about 30 pins out of a rod. Ebay has lots of stainless bar and rod stock cheap usually. I bought some 6-32 stainless machine screws at the hardware store the other day and they were .20 each. I imagine buying the stainless
fasteners like you are could get mighty expensive fast.

Like Ilovetoolsteel mentioned, you'll want to find a better source eventually, but they'll work perfectly fine for now until you find that better source. I hope the apartment situation works out for you, you might end up having to sue.
