Hey everyone,
I'm looking for an updated list of recommended Canadian suppliers, mainly for handle materials (woods, horns, etc), with a focus on online shopping. I've done the amazon/ ebay thing with limited success. Most everything else comes from the U.S, and thes others seem to charge unrealistic shipping rates. Do any of you have a recommended supplier who charges actual shipping rates and has a good selection of woods etc? Or do most of you find brick and mortar stores to buy from?

Thanks!

I know of https://www.stabilizedwood.ca/ and https://exotic-woods.com/products/hardwood-softwood for wood
https://www.knifemaker.ca/ for general things (steel, micarta, g10, HT, etc)
But if I want Ironwood or a specific exotic wood or steel (special size or whatever), I still need to go to the US... And expect to sell a kidney because for a big order you are looking at at least 100$ (US!!!) shipping (because of exchange rate etc.). The cost is just ridiculous. I also asked some big steel companies in canada if they would be willing to sell me steel, even their "scrap" they almost laughed at me or the minimum order was just enormous. I also found carbon steel to be cheaper in US but stainless is cheaper here in Canada (with the shipping factor included). I would also appreciate if someone knows other canadian suppliers.

Thanks for the info Alex, I'll check those out. I've been ordering 01 from amazon actually at what is a decent price compared to my local retailer :

If you are ordering wood, shipping should NOT be that much. I charge 21 USD for all wood orders to canada, ive sent ~25 blocks for that.

Biggest issue I have run into around shipping across the border from US to Canada is brokerage fees. The courier companies are terrible for that. Their brokerage fees are close to half the value of the package....I bought an $80 archery site and Fedex charged me $38 in brokerage fees on top of their shipping fee.
On the other hand USPS (united states postal service)charges little to nothing in brokerage fees. Similar to Ben, using Postal Services I have shipped about 25-30 blocks off to be stabilized in the states for about $27 cdn (very close to 21USD) and had them shipped back to me stabilized for about 21USD.
My advice is DON'T USED COURIERS to ship across the border. Cost is fine then.

For wood, penblanks.ca has been really good if you want stabilized or exotic blocks or scales. I order my steel from aks or through jt.
I do wish we had better sources for micarta/ g10 and some of abrasives. Cork belts are next to impossible to find along with rhynowet.

Thanks for your reply, I'd never come across your website before but I'll be ordering from you soon!
