Hi all, I will be headed over to Smokey Mountain Knife Works in Pigeon Forge TN tomorrow. I live less than 2 hours away so I usually run over there a few times a year. I was curious if anyone wanted to check out some pictures of the knife superstore and some of the historical displays. If anyone shows intrest in seeing them, I will take a bunch of pics while I am there tomorrow and post them when I get home. If no one is interested, I wont worry about it.

Thanks.

I used to buy from them all the time, until I got into more high-end knives. But would still like to see some nice pictures of the joint.

I rarely buy anthing when i go because of their pricing, however there historical collection is QUITE impressive in my opinion.

I was there when super storm Sandy hit. There was 4 feet of snow on Newfound Gap Rd at the State line. It was impressive.

take lots of pics!! remington displays and posters! last time i was there was about 15 years ago.. i'm sure they have lots more by now. many thanks..

I buy from them. Sometimes it is only because they have it in stock versus the cheapest price. Have not been displeased with them although I think they are a little slow in shipping things sometimes. They have gotten one of my orders wrong and really didn't try to "fix it", other than say, "send it back". I don't really blame them. My order was a machete that they got wrong... wrong model, but I think they had it mis-identified.

I stop there a couple times a year and enjoy the visits. More than a few knives have followed me home from there.

So, if you want to take pictures and post a thread, sure.

YES...please tell one of the managers that their knife catalogs primarily feature only cheaply made bulk knives of little interest to knife aficionados. Also, I used to order knives when there were great deals; however, great deals these days are few and far between! I still look at their catalogs, but rarely order anymore. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end and I was sorry to see Smoky Mountain go the way of the world, but their prices no longer are competitive and I'm not the kind of guy who likes to buy a citrus bag full of cheap knives made in China!

I have been there at least 2 dozen times and the looking around NEVER gets old. However "most" of the prices are way to high. Pictures would be great but don't buy unless you get a deal, which you will at times. Best of luck and have a great trip!

I was very disappointed in the catalog they recently sent me. Page after page after page of "case" style knives - not my personal cup of tea, but there were SO MANY featured it seems like a waste of space. Especially considering that there are also pages dedicated to cheap chinese knives like smith and wesson and frost cutlery, but absolutely nothing for benchmade, kershaw, spyderco etc.

I suppose if it sells knives for them then good for em, but not of interest to me personally.

If only they're cheaper then I'll definitely help their business out. Every time I visit their prices just make me feel sad... oi... But it's still a very fun place to visit.

They had no Lionsteel, no Fallkniven, no Gransfors Bruks, no Pohl Force, and everyone but the multitool and Victorinox salespeople had no idea what they were talking about. I had people trying to sell me cheaper combo edge blades left and right and the dude manning the folder counter knew nothing about Spyderco, ZT, Benchmade, Emerson etc. There were about five Benchmades in the case, and I was disappointed that I didn't get to handle the many models I never see around my town. Also, no new Condors, no new Leathermans (was looking forward to checking out the OHT). HUGE disappointment.

I used to go to the store frequently or buy from their kniveslive show. The show had some good deals sometimes. I don't buy China Schrades but was going to buy one of their rehandled USA Schrade fixed blades and was treated rudely by the fellow behind the counter. That and the fact that the owner of SMKW fired Steve Koontz VP and former host of kniveslive is the reason I have stopped buying from them. It was said on another forum by a member of a knife club called Sharpfans that after a long talk with a SMKW employee, Steve was fired because the owner was not satisfied with TV sales. What did he expect Mr. Koontz to do reach through the TV an grab peoples wallets. Steve was a good guy who deserved better. He was with SMKW over twenty years so he must have done something right. Seems the owner has no loyalty to his employees but I'm sure that he expects it from his employees. There is another interesting story if you do a search on AAPK that I won't repeat here. You can do the search and read yourself.

I would be most pleased if they carried more of the "better" lines as well. I suspect sales volumes on the higher priced stuff are rather small as compared to the cheaper stuff. They sell a lot of knives and the sell a lot of Case knives. I particularly enjoyed their manufacturer's day a couple of years ago that they were having and I just happened to visit. Folks mention their prices and they do provide a benchmark on pricing. For many things it tends to be a couple dollars higher than some of the online competitors. But I just bought a Condor Kephart there and it was priced less than some of the other online retailers.

ok here goes......sorry for the cell phone pics....i will add the rest at a later time.

Did you skip over all the good knives?
I think the pictures are of the knife museum there.

... and they're good pictures, too. I knew there was some sort of museum there, but I hadn't seen it until now. Thanks for posting!
