CHECK OUT THE LATEST POST. BACK FROM SPA TREATMENT WITH PICTURES!

Chris Reeve detectives, I have a mystery for you.

A nice-looking, too good to be true (you know the type) eBay auction that I picked up:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/231455146576?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

This seller has this knife listed as a Small Sebenza 21 Insigno in "great condition". For $220. Sweet!

Then, I get what looks like a Regular Sebenza that has been through the wringer. My guess is that the seller simply had no clue what he had and put this listing together after Googling for 3 minutes. Of course, there are many kinds of Sebenzas, and they can easily be confused.

I have taken several pictures of this knife. What do you guys think? Is it a fake?

Here's a whole bunch of pictures for you to scrutinize. Thanks in advance for your help and expertise :)

Congratulations, that is a real Sebbie. You have a knife worth a lot more than $200. Send it off to CRK to have it fixed up. They will make it like new for very little money, relatively speaking of course.

The blade is beat and chipped to hell. Maybe you can see the extent of it in the pictures. There are also some rust spots that make me weary that it might not be a CRK steel. Do you think it's a BG-42 model?

Thanks!

I also believe that it is the real deal. I would agree with the suggestion to send it back to CRK for the full spa treatment. great score! And yes, I think it is BG42, because there is no S on the blade....

They can fix the blade for you. It could be BG42. I am no pro at figuring out the steel without knowing the year made.

i vote real. and that it needs to got to the spa. great score as long as crk spa and bit of parts don't bring your price up too much.

Dang, I was watching that knife on ebay and asked the seller for some actual photo's but he didn't respond. Congratulations on a great score.

That looks like a large Regular from around 1997. The blade should be BG-42, but regardless its a great find. For maybe $60 or $70 CRK can make that puppy shine like new. Great snag!

Whoa. After checking out that listing, you must be quite a gambler! :D

Nice score!

The blade steel could also be ATS 34. They can let you know for sure which steel it is when you send it back. Nice find!

I was thinking the same thing! Huge risk, but it paid off for you!! Nice knife, it will be quite a knife when it comes back from Idaho:thumbup:

Some guys have all the luck!

Authentic and what appears to be ATS-34 polished steel.

If you do send it to the spa I would recommend requesting that insofar as possible they use all the original hardware (screws, washers, etc). Or, at a minimum I would request they send you all of the old hardware back when they are done.

Nice find!

Thank you all very much for checking this out! It's going back home to Idaho for a spa treatment! I will update this thread with the "after" photos when it returns!

It's fake

Send to me for proper disposal :p

Good score :)

Its real for sure. Thats one of the OLD regulars with the hand rubbed blade rather than the stonewashed look. I seen it on ebay but passed because I felt the listing was way off. Glad a forum member snagged it. Send it in for the spa and it would look like new. BG-42 I recon. Perhaps even ATS-34. Only CRK would know for sure.

Does the frame lock side have the recessed area for the clip. The clip in one of the pics it doesn't look to be seated into it, could be because someone used the wrong screw?

Right clip, wrong screw. Hopefully the prior owner didn't bugger up the threads too bad using that. CRK should be provide a new, correct one when the refurb is done.
