Upgrade Manix2 to PM2??

So I have heard around that the PM2 is many peoples EDC Holy Grail. My local shop does not carry it but said they can order it if I want one. In a similar category I already have the Manix2, and I enjoy it a lot though mine is the hollow saber grind not a FFG run (which I would prefer).

Is it worth it to go to the PM2? Does anyone prefer the Manix2 OVER the PM2? What are the main advantages that the PM2 has over the Manix2?

Thanks.

If yours was a FFG sprint run, I'd say it may be close. But the PM2 is much nicer than the standard Manix 2 IMO.

I dont have a Manix2, but will be getting the next sprint run. I only own 11 knives but the Para2 Is my go to edc. With the ZT 0350 next in line, it carries heaver and with more bulk but I love the tank like feel. The Para2 seems hard pressed to beat as a perfect edc.

The Translucent Manix 2 is my favorite folding knife EVER. I carried a Native 2 for 10 years or so. The Manix 2 replaced the Native the majority of the time, except when I couldn't deal with the size/weight/abrasion. The TM2 replaced the Manix 2.

The TM2 takes a great edge, holds it well, resharpens easily, has shown no tendency to stain or rust, is lightweight, strong, grippable but doesn't destroy pants or give my skin a carpet burn if I brush it. It is a great size to use well, without being huge or heavy. LOVE it.

To me the Para has better ergonomics than the Manix2,the choil on the M2 is just too much for me

I have a regular manix 2 and a regular para 2. I think the manix 2 actually fits my hand better - but I like the lighter weight and the ffg blade of the para 2.

If they made the manix 2 with skeleton liners and a ffg blade - then the manix and para would be equals in my book. It would cut down on the desirability of the sprint runs a great deal though..

I'm probably going to sell my manix 2 and buy a manix xl instead. I'll carry the para most days and carry the xl when I'm in the mood for a big knife, or when I go to Memphis.

If you go for the m390 then HELL YES. The compression lock is amazing. I would suggest going for a sprint run though. They add extra umph

+1 on the m390. It is as close to perfect as any knife I have ever handled. I am not sure why those have not sold out.

If the knife is going to be used - I dont know if I'd want to pay the extra for the M390. I mean since when is s30v crummy?

I prefer the Manix 2 over the P2, personally. They're both fantastic knives, but I prefer the CBBL over the compression lock and the way the Manix 2 fits my hands.

I own both and carry both quite often, but I wouldn't consider the Para 2 an 'upgrade' over the Manix 2 - just a different design.

My first Spyderco was a base (hollow ground 154CM, solid liners, black G10) Manix2. I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. After about a week of carrying it, though, it started to seem a bit heavy and bulky in my pocket. Still fantastic in-hand.
I picked up a FFG M4 skeletonized-liner tan one - it feels at least as solid, is noticeably lighter, but still feels like it takes up my whole pocket (I deep rfp carry. When I clip anything, including a Leek, to my pocket it makes it very uncomfortable to get my keys out. I have pretty big hands - size XL to XXL gloves.)
Anyway, based on trying an PM2 at a shop, and all the glowing reviews, I ordered the M390 one and can only agree with the above. It is awesome, and IS my EDC.
It's an amazing slicer, holds a razor edge forever, simply feels like an extension of the hand, and opens and closes like butter. And, although it's slightly longer and only slightly trimmer that the Manix2, it's lighter and carries like it's about 2/3 the size. I can feel it in my pocket just enough to know it's there, but it never gets in the way, or makes me feel like it's just sitting there like a lump.
So, for me, for EDC, it's an upgrade. As far as design or performance, it is merely a different way of doing business. Both are great.
I keep a Manix in my trunk, and usually have another in my jacket pocket, in case I need to do something that I may be afraid will gum up or damage the tip on my (rather pricey Sprint) PM2 (or, heaven forbid, misplace it), but there is no regular cutting task I don't think the Para2 is up to, and for me it the the perfect EDC.
YMMV - good luck with your choice.

Thanks for the input everyone. I think I'll tell my store to order a PM2 for me, I have extra knife money saved for the Becker BK16 but if it's release is anything like any of the other Becker line's releases this year I'll have extra time to save up again. I see PM2's for pretty good prices on amazon but I have also heard a lot of people will order them and get the PM1 or wrong colors and other minor but annoying mix ups.

Manix 2 sprint with ffg g10 and carpenter steel is great. It feels much better in hand than my smurf blue para2. My favorite though is the translucent blue manix 2. It looks great, opens great, fells so good in hand and the material and pattern give great purchase. It sharpens fast too. I want one in translucent green or gray. I like Manix 2 much better than para 2.
