I’ve been using this electric Worksharp (base model) for a few years.

I like it fine, but I want a setup that has the following features:

Hands free - allow me to turn on the sharpener and then keep both hands on the blade.

Heavy - I don’t want the unit to bounce around or be pushed easily whilst I have both hands on the knife I’m trying to sharpen

Smooth/variable speed motor

Platten backing - I like convex edges but want to have a platten behind the belt, so that I have a shallower convex.

Larger belts - something at least 1 x 30”, but replacement belts must be plentiful (cheap!) and easy to replace. Quick belt replacement without tools.

Budget - trying to keep this under $300 if possible.

I’m not a tooth fairy, but I know how to grant your first wish. Go down to Harbor freight, and for less than 20 bucks buy a foot switch. Plug the tool into the foot switch, plug the foot switch cord into your power source, and down the road you go.

Thank you. But the work shape has a trigger switch to turn it in. It must be engaged to keep it on. I’ve considered zip tie but it doesn’t look like it’s going to work

I’m not familiar with the Worksharp, but I’ve occasionally used the same method on my Tormek.

Perhaps a spring clamp.

The worksharp has an on\off\ press to keep on switch........3 modes. Push switch other direction to lock on......
Mine does anyway first version🤔
I clamp mine down and free hand sharpen whatever needs it....

Wow, you are so right about that! I’ve owned this thing for 5+ years and never realized. 🙏

I used a little 10lb dumbbell to hold it steady. Perfect for what I was looking for!
