Hey all, very quick question - I have had a SOG Powerlock EOD for a while and loved it. Long story short, I gave it to my good buddy who has hit a rough patch in his life and could use something nice.

With that said, I am going to buy another Powerlock, but noticed they now have a 2.0 version with a new type of "piano" lock for each tool. Is this a good feature or a pain in the butt?

For those of you who have owned both models, is it worth upgrading to this newer version or should I just stick w the original?

They are about the same price so I just thought I'd ask...

Thanks!

I don't have the old one, but I read that the piano lock was designed to fix the problem of a few tools not locking reliably. So if all of yours do work, that's no advantage.

However, the gear teeth have a guard now that is supposed to make it more comfortable to use the screwdrivers with. I can't imagine there's many people who wouldn't find that an improvement.

I believe the plier head is a little bit different, but can't say for sure. The V-cutter has been around for a while but if yours is really old it may not have that, and I personally have found it to be extremely useful even I have a knife and scissors available.

Personally, I like the piano locks. Some people complain that its hard to use. I just smash all the locks at once, just like if it was the older powerlock. No problem!

But the best features of the 2.0 are the gear guards and the better plier head. They also improved the handle flaps a tad.

The powerlock 2.0 EOD is my go-to multitool for large tasks!
