Upgraded Bugout

Is there any chance we will be seeing an upgraded bugout in 2019? I would like to see upgraded steel and maybe factory G10. It seems like the bugout has been there best seller, just seems like a logica step to make different variants

I could see a -1 version of the Bugout. I’m not so sure about G10 scales, as the Bugout’s whole “idea” is to be a superlight carry knife. Being that the price was already low, S30V might remain the “base” steel.

If there was a 535-1, I’d expect 20CV and carbon fiber, as CF has been Benchmade’s go-to for -1 knives, and 20CV is their new “upgraded” steel.

I’ve been wrong before though.

I think they should stick with the FRN and just upgrade the steel. Something like a mustard or goldenrod yellow rather than the traditional crayola yellow and I’d pick S90V for the steel.

Oh and polished hardware.

The bugout got excellent traction among reviewers on YouTube and elsewhere in 2018. I am guessing that Benchmade will ride that horse as is through 2019 (why cannibalize something that is still going strong). Then, once everyone has the base model, they will release something new for 2020. I think the 20CV is a good guess for upgraded steel based on what they have been doing. As for scales, I am guessing they go CF and G10. Eventually I am guessing the bugout goes more the way of the griptilian series (in terms of lots of options) as opposed to the 940 direction (with fewer "official" offerings).

I would love to see a factory Bugout with orange FRN or G10 scales and 20CV steel.

I suppose this is a fun read for the bugout fans: https://www.benchmade.com/blog/intr...utm_campaign=Introducing+The+535-191+Bugout®+

And this promo clip on YouTube:

Haha, such epic music for announcing a million dollar bugout strikes me as comical.
I'm however completely uninterested in this. At that price point you could get a great custom, 1.5 sebenza or a bull shamwari or about 10 to 12 delicas Haha. They really just should have upgraded to 20cv with something inexpensive and light like aluminum. If they priced something like that like a 940 I imagine they'd be printing money I'd sure buy one and a spare.

The m4 Freek promises good things though. It's about time Benchmade did some innovations to their lineup. Never would have bought a Freek in its current form what with all the competition in its price range. Distinct colored g10 scales with a slab of m4 in a Benchmade under 200 bucks on the other hand is something I could only have hoped for in the past.

I have come to the conclusion that Gold Class is not something I will ever be interested in. It is a collector's thing and I'm not much of a collector. I don't typically care for the materials used either. I know they're high end but damascus and CF isn't something I look for in a knife. The Gold Class are marketed for the Benchmade guys that collect.

The -1 Freek on the other hand is exactly what I've been waiting for. I bought a Yojimbo 2 to try M4 but I didn't care for the knife design so I moved it. The -1 Freek is a design that I like but the materials just weren't for me. Benchmade has now make the Freek very desirable at a price range that seems pretty good in value.

Don't mean to hijack the bugout thread any further, but this is exactly how I feel about this new Freek. I suppose I could have done without dlc coating but at this price, with this steel and backed by Benchmades customer service I caved pretty much immediately. Read the specs, saw it was black coated, and instantly thought 'well, very nice but it'll probably be around the price of a 940-1 at least so..' but at this price point, and a 14 bucks discount at my dlt account I just can't say no. Hope this trend continues to other designs that wouldn't suffer from an upgrade while remaining affordable

I think Benchmade really missed the boat with their gold class Bugout they just announced. I'm sure some will buy it but I suspect that many, myself included, were looking for something more along the lines of 20CV with carbon fiber or other upgraded scales. That would be about the only think in their lineup that would make me reach for my wallet. The Bugout is such a fantastic platform and I don't think they're capitalizing on it to the extent that they certainly could.
