Upgrading 10/22 Sights

Over the weekend I attended an Appleseed shoot (which I highly recommend). I decided to take my 10/22 since we would be going through about 300 rounds each day.

One of the instructors noticed my frustrations with the factory sights on my 10/22 and offered me the use of her 10/22. She had installed aftermarket sights that are based AR sights from a company called Tech-Sights. They were great. They were so good, I ordered a set from Tech Sights yesterday morning.

I thought some of the folks here at BF would be interested in this upgrade to their 10/22's. If anyone else has tried these, i would like to hear feedback from others out there.

I once had a Beeman Short Scope III air rifle scope on a 10/22. I think it was ~4X zoom. In addition to being rugged, it had an adjustable front parallax correction that was calibrated to shorter ranges than most rifle scopes. Unfortunately I think they no longer make them, but they're around in the secondary market.

I have been thinking about mounting a scope on my 10/22 for quite a while. After using these, I think it is a good compromise. Not as good as a scope, but better than the factory sights. I think in addition to being a better style sight (I like peep sights), the fact that the rear sight is 8" further back on the rifle should improve accuracy.

i saw a set of upgrades awhile back on cheaperthandirt.com that was simply a rear peep that mounted on the top of the reciever using the factory drilled holes, and a fiber optic front sight. im not sure who made them, but ive considered trying this change to one of my 10/22s. while the factory sights work well enough for me, i LOVE peep sights

I shot and purchased the TSR100 sights. After doing a little reading, I decided that I didn't really need the elevation adjustment on the rear sight. With the flip rear sight it is more like my AR.

Not to hijack my own thread too much, but, while I was looking around and researching these sights, I found this stock.

I found them available at a few different places. With the stock and the Tech Sights it really does look like an M1 Carbine. Kind of a different play on the "making your 10/22 tacti-cool"

I put tech sights TSR200 on my DSP 10/22 and never looked back. I could have lived happily with the 100's but I'm not changing it now. If you want better sights without putting on a scope the tech sights are the way to go!

i looked up the ones i was referring to and theyre made by Williams Gun Sight Company and cost 39.97

How did you like the Appleseed? There is one near me next month. I've been shooting a long time but I'm a little uncomfortable shooting with a bunch of strangers.

Love my TS200's on the 10/22. Shot Rifleman last June at Davilla. Wanted to go last weekend to the big April 19th weekend shoot, but got sick with walking pneumonia, so had to cancel.

Help me out here you all. Are you choosing iron sights over a scope? Can both be used at the same time? What about people like myself who are 55 years old and farsighted? (I need reading glasses) Sorry if I'm hyjacking, my apologeses Mr. Chewbacca, these sound very interesting.

yes they can. im not sure who made them, but i have a couple sets of rings that mount the scope high enough you can still use the irons. they mount directly to the reciever and are a one piece base/rings setup. i know theyre everywhere, i think i got mine at Walmart

Those mounts tend to make you pull your cheek up off the stock when using the scope because they're so high.Hard to shoot consistenly with. I had some and took them off.--KV

I liked it a lot. I went with one friend, but he was on the other end of the line (he is a lefty, and brought a left handed AR, so he thought it would be polite to go to the for left spot), so we didn't get a chance to talk too much. It was a busy day, and we spent a lot of time at the line.

I have been plinking for probably 10 years, but never had any type of formal instruction on long guns. If you have the chance, I would say attend, you may kick a bad habit, and pick up a new good habit. I think even if you are an excellent, experienced shooter, it is still a fun day at the range.

Porkbilly - For this rifle, yes, I am choosing iron sights over a scope. I feel like learning to shoot effectively with iron sights will really help my shooting with a scope as well. I have had this rifle for probably 13-14 years, and have taken plenty of chipmunks and squirrels with it with the factory sights, but I wanted something better.

I also want to say, I am definitely not anti-scope. For hunting, I prefer a scope. You don't want to take a chance wounding an animal, when you could have a clean kill instead.
