Upgrading my bicycling kit....

I finally found a good use for some of my less-used knives, i added them to my cycling breakdown kit i carry in my Camelbak MULE....

the normal contents of the kit are;
Park tool kit (chainbreaker, tire levers, hex wrenches, patch kit, spoke wrench and cone wrench in a zippered pack)
Park 3-armed hex wrench
18MM cone wrench (for my singlespeed's Surly Singleator)
spare innertube
compact air pump

and now....
SOG Crossgrip multitool
Vic. Spatan Lite

i figure having a decent compact pair of pliers and a couple good sharp blades in the breakdown kit couldn't hurt, and it's better than them gathering dust.....

hmm, wonder if i should move my Chinook from the car's center console to the Camelbak....

a little of both actually, the SS is an old rigid frame Fila Taos mountain bike, an old early 90's frame, simple, basic, an overbuilt roadie frame designed for wider tires

i've got a pair of Serfas Drifter semi-slicks (inverted tread) on it and a Surly Singleator tensioner, running a 18/38 ratio

i mostly ride on road, but the tires can take a little bit of off roading, dirt roads, fire roads, that sort of thing

it's heavily customized, i've got a rear rack on it, a decent amount of lights and blinkies, the frame is outlined in retroreflective tape, a set of bullhorn bars with a PVC bar between the bullhorn ends acting as a light bar for my headlights, it's a fun old bike, best bet is it looks so ugly nobody will steal it....

Here's a short QuickTime pan around the bike

good thing too, because i disable the brakes when i leave it outside while grabbing lunch, if someone did steal it, it'd be the last thing they do, as they carreen down the hill towards traffic and a large *BRICK* mill building.....

hey, don't look at me like that, if they didn't try stealing the bike, they wouldn't be in the situation they find themselves in....

careening down a hill towards traffic with no brakes....

luckilly, no one's tried to steal it yet....

I haven't seen h-bars like that in a long time! Cool!

Looks like a great rig for general use - --and any form of dealing injury to bike stealers will get no complaints from me!

I notice you don't list a patch kit or some of those Park sticky patches. It's the second and third flat that'll getcha! And on really nasty tire slashes, those Park boots are excellent - much better than the dollar bill trick.

I do carry a decent sized folder with me - I've had a couple of dog encounters, including one with two pit bulls blocking a bike path, that convinced me I needed a last-ditch way of getting a determined dog to release my leg. Haven't used it yet, and don't want to, but I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

And nothing works better than a good blade for getting thorns out of tire casings!
