Thought I would share a pic of one the wolves didn't get yet . They have been eating good around here the last few years and our deer population has suffered because of it . I took this nice little Buck friday evening . Not a big rack by anyones definition but a nice size deer , weighing in at 160 ish ( dressed ). My scale is in 5 lb. increments , hence the ish :) I snapped this pic about a minute after tracking him down ( he didn't go far , only about 60 - 80 yds. ) . He met my Ruger M77 in 6mm (.243) , I took out both lungs with the shot , a good humane , quick kill . Of course he had to head right into the middle of a twisted , snarled up two yr. old clear cut , complete with skidder ruts and tree tops from the cut. I forgot how hard it was to drag a buck with no snow on the ground , it has been unseasonably warm the last week or so here. Usually we have some snow that has stuck by now. All that came has since melted. Anyone else had any luck ? Lets see 'em :)

It's good to see someone having luck :) I could have picked off any one of about 10 doe this weekend but I'm holding out for something with a little more handle material :D

nice job.
good to hear someone with a kill story. Deer have been kinda slow moving around my way, unless you are in a car that is.

Ironic how so many hunters feel they have to go so far from home to hunt the "elusive whitetail" . My Dad comes to hunt with me , 500 mi. from home. Last season my brother took a giant , I mean giant 10 pt. , less than 200 yds from my Dads back door. Guess where Dad is hunting this firearm season. That is a really nice buck in the pic. I wonder how many hunters were posted around the cemetary the next day.Probably looked like a pumpkin patch.

I'm lucky when it comes to whitetail. If I want one , I just walk out my front door and pounce on him with my knife in my teeth. :D

Just kidding

I do actually have to walk 100 feet up to the pasture.

Here's my stand :)

Nice deer stand.

Saw a doe and a small spike this past weekend. Nothing "freezer worthy" though.

Joe [valimas] check the paper , there's your deer in the cemetary !!! www.recordonline.com A fine 8 pointer .

That's just not fair, right by 84 & rt 6 he dont stand a chance .Hopefully that buck can make it 3 miles north to my back yard!
My dad and brothers are having a great season in M.O.
The Mule deer came from Idaho

WOW Joe ! Those are some Beauties ! I'm movin to MO. :) They have Whitetails & Mule Deer in MO. ? The last whitetail pic is a really nice buck , I haven't seen one like that in a few years . What do the whitetails around there weigh dressed ? I have heard that deer in the south , like texas , florida , carolina's etc . are smaller than their northern cousins. After seeing those pics I'm not so sure.

My dad has always had that kind of luck.Hows this for luck, the deer pictured with blood on the antlers was a missed shot at the last minute he flinched and thought he missed,he got that deer directly in the eyeball:eek: I think he said they dressed out around 160.The mulie came from Idaho on a hunting trip.

WoW! David, thats a fine deer, and grats to you for a good clean shot. Its always nice to kill 'em quick and bleed 'em out fast, and cool 'em down fast. I'm glad you didn't have to track it very far. I've had a "lunger" before, and he blasted through a huge heath before we could get to him. Shot almost in the same spot with my .308 and he melted right into that brush like he never got hit at all. I had to wade through all that water and puckerbrush, and I was exhausted by the time I got to the deer - 2 hours later.

Nice going Dave
I know what you mean about no snow.. nothing here in Maine yet and today was the last day.
BUT I got a nice doe Monday, 130 pounds we also got a 6 pointer and a crotch horn. four of us hunting with the wives and kid also from time to time.
so we all get meat..
we done well,, we cut them up last night here at the shop..all done

we don't have a problem with wolves here yet but the Coyote are bad this year,
but one less now..:D

that riffle looks a lot like my 243 Savage, (Bolt action too) , :D it will reach out there and touch stuff;) , I dropped the doe right in the road, no dragging :D eat your heart out haha.
