I live in Chemung county. I was wondering if anyone knew if Im able to carry a Winchester sheath knife with a 5" long blade on my belt?

You're only issue would be the potential for the knife to interpreted as a dangerous knife. If you are only carrying it out in the woods or on the water, that isn't something to worry about. Carrying it around town--it really depends on who you interact with. If you are confronted by an LEO and tell him that you are carrying it for use against your fellow man (self defense included), you could go down for CPW. Same if you use it to threaten or intimidate.

Is it smart? Not really. As the other poster said, there are times when discretion is the better part of valor. I could strap all my firearms in plain view on my body (sling, hip, shoulder, thigh, ankle, etc. etc.) and stagger down the street. Am I breaking any laws? Nope. Would I draw a lot of unwanted attention. You bet I would. As well I should, because it is not rational behavior. I am not applying the "rational behavior" argument to you, just using the absurd to make my point. Extra attention is not what you want unless you practice your black arts at the mall.
