Urban Cowboy Shoot was fun

I entered an Urban Cowboy .22 pistol shoot today at the gun club I belong to. It was fired on five SASS single action Cowboy shoot stages, but with a Ruger .22 semi-auto pistol only. 5 stages and 100 rounds of ammo were fired on the course.

The targets were all metal and some would fall over when hit. They varied in distance and height. 2 10 round clips were fired on each stage and the sceanarios involved shooting targets in some complex manors and you even emptied a magazine and ran to the next store front window, reloaded and emptied the next magazine.

I had never done this before and it was a lot of fun.

Then lunch was served. What a deal for $5.00 plus ammo.

Now it looks like I need a Ruger .22 pistol. Does anybody have one they would like to trade for a Systema Modelo 1927 .45 ACP?

I got 2 of the 1927's last night and fired them today, also. They shot 3" groups at 30' and could have done better with a rest. Pic attached.

Urban Cowboy shoot, fired .45's beautiful Florida day. It was good.

Hi Kevin:

I didn't get to practice. The club handed me a very nice stainless Ruger .22 pistol, I brought my own ammo.

I watched what the other shooters did and fired away with a pistol I had never seen, fired or handled before. They scored me one miss in 100 rounds, but I think they were mistaken about it. I think I placed 8 or 9th out of 20 shooters that do this all the time.

It was an awfull lot of fun. You had to aim, move, shoot, eject, reload, etc. as fast as possible since you were shooting against the clock. Some times left to right, sometimes right to left, sometimes a mixture plus targets up higher and hanging (from a gallows).

The club is doing a Rimfire Ruckus shoot next Saturday and I will try it out. .22 western style revolvers in western holsters are used along with lever action .22 rifle and a single barrel break open shotgun that is fired and reloaded 4-5 times. Again against the clock and running from door to window and picking up the next weapon to fire and empty.

I never knew about this type of shooting.

Steve, sounds like fun. Our range is pretty boring; there is a sporting clays course though.

When it said "Urban Cowboy" for some reason I was thinkin' it was shooting at car-stealing, gang-bangin' punk targets. Guess I was thinking of the Cocaine Cowboys in 1980's Miami.

Steve I have heard of the matched revolver and levergun . I always wanted to get a 44 mag lever gun to match my handgun . It would just be for fun as I am not that proficient with it and it has a ten inch barrel to boot . Its still a hoot to shoot .

I have been thinking about putting a Ruger Anniversary .44 BlackHawk on lay away for awhile now. Too bad money is so tight right now.

I don't know if it's true, but this gun club says they have the best Cowboy Stages in the southeast. Never seen one before. This one is extensive and elaborite.

It's kind of a Hogan's Alley for Cowboy rimfire and centerfire shooting and the Urban Cowboy shooting.

Each shoot is preceeded with some sort of scenario or briefing. You are told what kind of bad guys you are shooting. I figured targets were targets, but they do it that way.

You have me interested, I'll bite.

Now that's a damned shame. . . .

A. Yes they were real. 625 dead Urban Cowboys were taken to Boot Hill that day. Honest.

B. I'm interested in a Ruger Mark II .22 with a bull barrel. So I can go shoot me some more Urban Cowboys.

I sent back my 2 Sistema Modelo 1927's because they were worn out junk. The dealer wrote that they are getting so many back, they will not resell them. So I've got some cash for a Ruger.
