This was a fun project. Second one on my "new" grinder- 9" disc, 1x42" belt, 1/2 hp GE motor, bought at the pawnshop for $60. Decided to make something not PC. O-1 steel, chisel-ground, 7" oal, black linen micarta with red and black liners. Tried selectively hardening and tempering using Ed Fowler's advice in the Nov. Blade issue (great article, thanks much!). Good results, had fun at work last night with some co-workers slashing up piles of cardboard boxes left over from a woodworking show. Sorry about the picture quality, still trying to figure out this digital camera stuff.

Wow Richard, you did that on a 1x42? I used a 1x42 for a while and couldn't grinding anything good on it, so I got a Grizzly. What kind of sheath you making for it?

I've got to say it ..that is a whole lot of ugly. One of the most impressive pieces of metal that I have seen for a long time, it should come in handy for a whole lot of tasks and nicely finished too.

I am impressed with your ability to keep pushing the envelope with your designs.

Get a patent, take out a huge loan, make them out of Talonite and sell them to the military at exorbitant prices. Oh yeah, you'll have to make them black and drill lots of holes in them. :D
Seriously though, nice work. Might be just the ticket for splitting pelvises.

I'm impressed! You keep comming up with great designs and you did it on little, inexpensive machine. Cool.

Richard, that is cool. You have a real eye for the useful in the unusual, great design.

Dave

Thanks for all the kind words, folks!:) Eric- this one is getting a kydex sheath that will have multiple carry options. This is turning into quite a job in itself, as I don't have a lot of experience working with this stuff.
