switchblades are illegal here. this knife is on ebay for $11 + $7.50 postage. it is made in italy. no idea how it opens (ie. do i grab the blade and pull it out or is there some form of mechanism, ie thumbstud, etc). it is made in italy. i want a knife with a sharp point that looks cool. is the steel decent? should i buy for this price? ebay auction for it is ending soon. my current knives are a kershaw leek and a bud k stiletto (7 inch - not real good) the falcon it is shown on ebay:

is it good? should i buy? pls let me know. thanks for your time.

If you like it, and you can legally own it, go ahead. Personally, I'd buy something a little more practical, though. Seems to me that tip is just waiting to be snapped off. I have one like that around here some where; I just never got into the style. Stag handle on mind was pretty decent, blade grind was okay, edge holding I don't know about, as I didn't use it for anything. Lock on mine held pretty well.

It opens like a regular folder - grab the blade and pull it open. Press the lock at the back to close it.

That class (price range) of knife is meant for looks (i.e. you get what you pay for). It would be excellent for looking cool, flicking open with your wrist, etc. The steel would be strong enough to be very sharp, but wont stand up to rough treatment. Most likely, the hinge-pin would begin to loosen and the blade will become "wobbly".

It does look sexy enough to justify buying and displaying, but dont use it as a tool. Bud K and many others sell such cheap knives, mostly switchblades, butterfly-knives, wartime replicas... For $20 you get a good quality toy. REAL knives like that sell for way over $100.

It is very sexy...

thanks - i appreciate it. i wasn't planning for any use other then cutting the occasional orange, and stabbing things (things not people lol). i really want some form of stiletto but i don't relli see them as a useable knife (not like my leek is anyway) a 9" swingaurd switchblade would be lovely, but i'd probably go to jail for owning that if it managed to get through customs lol. so i'll pay the $11 i think, and hope the blade doesn't snap.

thanks for your advice. it is very pretty in the picture.

Good luck with it, and enjoy it. My philosophy is - get what you like, and enjoy owning it, just be mindful the limits of whatever "it" may be. With knives, for between $10.-$30., you can buy all kinds of neat models, though they may not be very practical. Fun to look at, and fun to play with, is enough for me most of the time.

IIRC Falcon are real knives. The automatic stiletto is traditionally made in the Italian cottage industry, and is not of superb quality.
While I realise the Falcon is manual, the latter would still apply.

And it doesn't cost over $100 in general to purchase a decent Italian one; Germans neither, however U.S made examples are generally $500+ customs.
Stilettos are not good utility knives when made in a traditional manner, more due to the lock and construction than the blade.

No, it will do what they all are designed to do - withstand a stabbing thrust. Weak sideways, but quite strong forwards.

it bidded to about $25 so i didn't buy. am thinking about getting the 6inch closed ti lite. can't figure out how it is legal but my leek is pushing it but anyways.... ti lite looks good - will cost me $90 probably though... knives cost so much here in australia.

Are you sure you want the 6"? :)
That's about half the length of your arm when it's open.

Maybe you should ask on our Asian and Australian Knife Community forum if anyone knows about importing them.

When I owned one it fitted neatly into all my pants pockets, although it was difficult to hide the impression.
They aren't bad for utility; have more belly than the average stiletto blade, and the lock is tough.

I concur the 9" inch OAL model is a overall better idea.
