Like the dreaded Orcs of Middle Earth, this knife was spawned by the unholy union of a factory Maxam 420 stainless 'Sports' model knife and a custom XXX Improved Plow Steel (1095) cable damascus blade. Note the numerous flaws within the steel of the cable damascus blade.

Peened nickle/silver welding rod thumb tab.

Blade length is 3" (replacing the 3 1/4" Maxam blade), blade thickness is 5/32" (replacing the 3/32" Maxam blade), blade width on both blades is 1".

Factory micarta slabs.

Purportedly, a knife of this type would be used by the Orcs to skin Hobbits :)

Oops, almost forgot ...OAL is 7 7/16". Blade hardened and double tempered.

Nice Job
thats a very interesting project :) Sort of leaves me wondering why you didn't just make a folder outright, but it turned out pretty cool. I do like the handle it has, just seems like if you go to the trouble of making damascus and a blade you'd go ahead and do the handle too. You had to fit the lock anyhow so your obviously capable of doing it all.

Be sure to check out the shoptalk forum sometime too. I'm sure you could contribute to the conversation and you might find something that can help you out too. We have a lot of guys who make damascus and all sorts of knives.

Thanks for the comments ...I always appreciate others' input.

The reason for the project was twofold: do a 'test blade' with the cable damascus, and reverse engineer the principles behind linerlock knives. The Maxam linerlock, which is inexpensive and easily disassembled, was an ideal platform.
