Which of the Buck multi tools were/are made in the US?

Think I "need" one and would prefer a US model if possible.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Was that the only US made multi tool they made?

Off to troll the bay for the BuckTool, will also watch the local shops I cruise from time to time for one.

Another forum member saved me from the 'bay on the BuckTool, got one enroute!

Still looking to see if there were other US made Buck Multi's that I "need".

There haven't been any USA made multi tools offered that I could find since the original was dropped. The closest thing to a multi tool since then is the X-Tract 730 that was introduced in 2007 but I believe that it is made in Taiwan. The catalog doesn't say other than that it doesn't have the American flag next to it. It's also a "Whittaker" collaboration and all of those that I have were made in Taiwan.

There was one called the "Navigator" 753 in the 2002 catalog but it appeared to be an import also and only lasted that one year.

Dave,
Thanks! That was what I was tracking but I miss stuff from time to time (actaully really often!).

Will pick up an X-Tract along the way possibly.

However, I like to use the knives/tools I carry to get others to look at Buck more. Many Soldiers get turned off if it's an import, or they lump it in with other low end import makers.

Should have the BuckTool next week.

Thanks for the info!

I have one of those somewhere also and if I were you, I'd try to find one that you can check out first hand before buying it. I was pretty underwhelmed with it when I got it and it's not even close to being as good as the original. :thumbdn:

I just located mine, the camo model 730 and see that it's stamped "China", not Taiwan. I remember now why I didn't like it. Although it's brand new in the box, the only thing that opens smoothly and with out effort is the blade. Maybe it's just this one, but all the other "tools" are sort of a bear to get open.

I was glad when buck came oput with the bucktool, but afteer buying one was quickly disappointed, they were not made to use ,I broke the pliers making rabbit snares, broke flat head scewdrivers tighening a door knob, after 3 of them and all 3 failing miserably ,I went back to a leatherman multi tool.Wonder why buck discontinued them?I will say they had the most comfy handles on any multi tool i ever owned.

It seems like Buck never went full bore into the multi-tool market. When my Son became a disabled vet and was in the hospital they sent his possessions home and among them was his issue Gerber muti-tool.If Buck made one as good as that one, I'd be on it like white on rice.:)

I've got an X-tract Fin and I like it. Everything on mine opens smooth and the blade is wicked sharp and takes a great edge on the Sharpmaker. I wish they could bring these to the US for production, but they are not bad as is. I've had some other Whittaker Buck stuff from China like the Lumina and the Twin Peaks and it's good serviceable stuff. I think it's major drawback for me is all of it seems kinda "fat" with thick plastic scales, thicker than I would prefer, but it's not overly heavy and fairly ergonomic.

Received my BuckTool today from another forum member. First impressions are good. Haven't had a reason to use it yet but it appears well made/designed.

Money well spent on another Buck item.
