You can tell I've been saving this stuff up for a few days.:D

I was wondering about possibly doing a knife show in Canada but I have a few concerns. First off let me explain. Tess's family lives in Plattsburgh, NY (about 20 miles from the Canadian border, 50 miles south of Montreal). We visit her family as much as possible and I was wondering if there was a show in that area? Also, the area around Montreal is French-Canadian and the last I understood (may be wrong here) the French-Canadian population wasn't too keen on Americans. My last concern is the language and exchange. Tess can make change and speak a small amount of french from growing up and working in the area but, I'm really not sure what to expect if I try this. Any help would be great, especially from our Canadian brothers. Thanks.

Most of my Canadian experience is in Ontario and I adore them very much. The further north the better they get and I wish I could still go back every year like I used to be able to. RL

Hi there!

Not sure of shows right in Quebec, but there is a show in Ottawa (our nation's capital) which is right on the border between Ontario and Quebec. It's on near the end of September I think....there's a thread with details over in Canadian Connection.

The CKG has a show in Toronto (about 1-1.5hrs from Buffalo) in October and another in April 2004 (10th Anniversary). Use link in my sig for their website.

Not sure what the import rules are for makers bringing their wares in for shows.

I do know that you'll get a warm welcome in Toronto, there's always some sort of social for makers and knuts and you and your wife will be invited for sure.

Dale.

I have talked to a couple of makers who have done shows in Canada. When you go through customs I think that you have to declare all the knives that you are bringing into the country? Then they want to know how many you sold when leaving and you might have to pay taxes on them. I'm not entirely sure on the subject but it might be more work than your expecting.

I think you will get a warm reception no matter what part of the country you visit (I live on the east coast..If you are ever in the area you would certainly be welcome at my place)

I think your best bet would be to talk Peter Wile from the Canadian Knifemaker's Guild. He would likely have some information for U.S makers planning to attend the CKG shows.

Hope this helps
Dean

I sure hope you can make it up for a Canadian show - and Toronto isn't THAT far from Montreal. Plus we have electricity now and everything;) .

Cheers,

Roger
