I was looking at some pics of a friend who is serving over in Iraq and I got inspired to do some handles that had the same feel as the uniforms that our soldiers are wearing over in Iraq and A-Stan. I didn't end up doing anything too extreme, but settled on some desert tan G-10 scales with some thicker OD green liners. It's subtle but has the same feel as the desert fatigues our boys are wearing. I thought it was a fitting tribute to the young men and women serving our country and wanted to share.

Here are a couple quick pics right after final handle sanding. I may give the scales a bead blast finish still. Not sure yet, input is welcome.

Nice colors and fitting tribute!

Looks nice, I say bead blast 'em.
Paul

Thanks Paul! I think I'm going to leave these ones smooth. I already have a few others with blasted handles for Oregon next month. The desert tan has a really nice warm feel to it right now. Also, this knife is cleaner and smoother all around, no jimping, softer transitions, etc. I think the smooth 600 grit finish works on this one.

I really like that a lot. I wouldn't bead blast it, for the same reasons you listed.

Love it. You could also offer a variation with OD green outer and desert tan liner. Perhaps matching kydex sheaths? :) Keep it up!

All of the comments regarding the handle treatment are noteworthy. My impressions are that your overall design is well thought out and user friendly. No sharp edges or angles on the handles and will fit just about anybody's hand. I really like the smooth thumb rest. Knives with file work or serrations on that part of a knife look really neat but will irritate your thumb after actually using a knife for any period of time. The blade grind is very nice as well and it would be interesting to know what steel you use in this knife. BTW I'd like to have one.
