A friend just gave me a US PLUMB 1944 raised letter Army hatchet. Some of the OD paint is off the handle, (50%) or so, otherwise like new. Not a ding anywhere on this hatchet. I don't think it has ever seen wood. Any ideas on if I should wipe some blo on it or leave it alone. I will sharpen it, but not touch the profile at all. Does anyone know where I could find a correct sheath for it? Dog

Don't do anything to the handle. Oil or wax t b email head to stop rust.
I wiped the handle down and put a thin coat of blo on it to hold the rest of the paint on. I bronze brushed the head and sharpened the 1/4 inch of the edge. I had a new leather sheath I had forgot about and it fits it perfectly. I'll eezox the head and keep the sheath close by. Dog
