US Screw sizing

I'm trying to find screws with correct size and thread pitch for my ZT 0630. I would like to try gold plating (etc.) without sacrificing those screws that came with the knife. The only problem is that I'm not familiar with US screw sizing system and my local supplier only has metric screws in stock. I'm mainly interested to know the specs of thumb disc screw. If anyone knows or has skills to measure, help would be appreciated. Thanks! :)

I don't have a ZT, but I'm sure you could probably email them and ask what size it is. Gold plating I think doesn't go more than around .0007-.0009" of an inch I believe, so you could probably use your same screws. Also, for thread sizes, look at Machinery's Handbook for in depth size/pitch info.

Well, the diameter is the size obviously. For the pitch you will have to find someone who stocks a selection of nuts and try some.

Sounds like you already thought of that though. Solving that can be a pain, sorry.

Thanks guys.

I was able to find one of those cheap screw (metric/SAE) pitch gauges for about 8 USD. I belive screw size is 4 and pitch is 40. Now finding right lenght with small enough head is another challenge. Had to order that Machinery's handbook for future use too :)

You are probably correct. In addition to matching the pitch, I always check the diameter too. Between checking the pitch and diameter, I can usually figure them out.

You won't regret getting the Machinery's Handbook. There is a lot of good information and quite a bit of metric specifications too.
