US senior tourist breaks muggers neck

They are lucky this didn't happen in NY or San Francisco. They probably would have been charged with homicide.

The news report said that the muggers clavicle was broken. The mugger must have been pretty weak. I never heard of anyone dying from a broken collar bone, but I guess it could happen.

"Segura was later declared dead, apparently from asphyxiation."

I hate to be so cold, but that's just one less criminal to worry about.

Oops. I thought the story was done. I didn't scroll down far enough. I wonder what part of the military this gentleman served in.

I liked the part where the mugger was taken to the Red Cross for treatment and declared dead, and one of seniors treated for an anxiety attack.

Getting out of a real head lock is almost impossible.

I agree with UffDa, if this had happened in the USA, the senior would now be in custody for murder, awaiting trial. Very likely he would have gotten off, but not without an expensive, stressful trial.
Thank God not every country in the world looks at things the way we do!
The senior should get a medal.

Very true. and if its locked up tight and right you won't have very long before the lights go out...

Our local station carried a story last night about a 41-year-old who attempted to mug one of a group of 70+ year old leaving a dance. The grubby-looking mugger was not killed, but he lost big time. Several of the golden agers grabbed him, subdued him, and held him for the police.

From the, "now, we know", department: some old men and woman are tough as vines.

And a lot of the WWll generation don't take shi--

Hope is where we find it. I'm glad some seniors are alive and kicking.

Just read this story linked from Boortz. Good going. One less slime ball on the planet.

I met a man who served in WWII in the OSS. Very quiet modest man who told me his story. I won't go into it but he was taught by British MI-5 numerous ways to kill a man with his hands---he never got into so much as a scuffle his entire life because he was terrified that he might use those techniques...

Don't judge books by their covers folks.

"Getting out of a real head lock is almost impossible"

A few months ago I was fighting a few guys in my part time bouncing job and suplexed this guy who got lucky and got me in a head lock.
Head first into cement. Man,that was fun.

Different guy got me in a headlock and got about 10 uppercuts in the cojones till he let go with a follow up left hook straight right combo.

Headlocks are actually easy to get out of.
I know about 20 counters.
Now a rear naked choke while your balance is broken rearward is tough.
No doubt that is what the old timer used.
That was taught in WW2 combatives.
Also known as the sleeper hold.
I must have choked out 50 people over a 10 year period without one escaping or having any serious injury.
You just need to know when to give the guy some slack.
Leave it on full presure, they're dead.
Really the only effective way to stop an enraged person without hurting him.
- stun/tazor guns which don't work on everyone.
Pepper/Mace is very unreliable on enraged people.
Works great on everyone involved in the fight except the crazy guy you want to stop.

I meant the choke hold.

A very strong person might get out, but not me.

Good point. And what if he had been 35 or 40 instead of 70? In this state he would be doing time and the muggers family would be dividing up the multi-million dollar settlement.
