I've Googled this do death and, for once, cannot find what I need to know. What is and is not allowed in terms of possession and carry on your person?

I have an Emerson '8 on the way, standard 3" folders and a Kabar TDI (the little 2" or so fixed blade in a belt kydex sheath). As of now I intend to carry the Emerson as my primary deadly force tool. Damn I will miss having a gun.

Backstory:

I will be in the US Virgin Islands next month. It sucks enough that, apparenty, my pistol will not be going with. This will be my first time going somewhere without my EDC handgun in four years.

SOO I am going to have to rely on my pepper spray and a knife for defensive tools.

A copy of the statute is listed below. Other than switchblades and gravity knives (both defined within the statute) there are few restrictions, assuming one is not carrying a knife with the intent to use it unlawfully against another.

§ 2251. Carrying or using dangerous weapons

(a) Whoever—

(1) has, possesses, bears, transports, carries or has under his proximate control any instrument or weapon of the kind commonly known as a blackjack, billy, sandclub, metal knuckles, bludgeon, switchblade knife or gravity knife or electric weapon or device; or

(2) with intent to use the same unlawfully against another, has, possesses, bears, transports, carries or has under his proximate control, a dagger, dirk, dangerous knife, razor, stiletto, or any other dangerous or deadly weapon shall—

(A) be fined $5,000 and imprisoned not more than five (5) years; or
(B) if he has previously been convicted of a felony, or has, possesses, bears, transports, carries or has under his proximate control, any such weapon during the commission or attempted commission of a crime of violence (as defined in section 2253(d)(1) hereof) shall be fined $10,000 and imprisoned not more than fifteen (15) years, which penalty shall be in addition to the penalty provided for the commission of, or attempt to commit, the crime of violence.

(b) For purposes of subsection (a) of this section, the term “switchblade knife” means any knife which has a blade which opens automatically by hand pressure applied to a button, spring, or other device in the handle of the knife; and the term “gravity knife” means any knife which has a blade which is released from the handle or sheath thereof by the force of gravity or the application of centrifugal force which, when released, is locked in place by means of a button, spring, lever or other device; and the term “electric weapon or device” means any device which, through the application or use of electric current, including battery operated devices, is designed, redesigned, used, or intended to be used for offensive or defensive purposes, the destruction of life, or the infliction of injury.

I can imagine that dive knives and fishing-type knives are very popular there. The law appears to focus on intent, rather than the knife itself (with a couple of exceptions).
