I just picked up a little hatchet at a garage sale for $1.50. It says US04 on it and nothing else. I did a Google search and found lots of hatchets with US04 but nobody explained really who makes it. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Likely made by Ames/TrueTemper at the former Woodings-Verona factory in Falls City, Nebraska in 2004.

Ames (or its parent company) bought Woodings-Verona in 1997.

Certainly quite a few of us already understand the "USA-made in 2004" aspect of this stamp. Trust Steve to be able to flesh this out further to 'who' and 'where', with references. Thank you!

It definitely sounds like a woodings verona to me, that's exactly how my us94 4lb drilling hammer is marked, on my hammer the US and 94 are marked in shallow holes.
there was a bit of sticker left on the handle or head ( it was my grandpa's and I rehung it a few years ago and can't remember where the sticker was )
