I picked up this Camillus trapper because I like the pattern and the fact it was advertised as being Carbon V intrigued me. I knew it looked exactly like the Cold Steel Trapper and that Carbon V was a trademarked name of Cold Steel but this was marked Camillus. At any rate for under 20 bucks I figured what could I lose and bought it. The main blade is marked Camillus but in silk screen or etching...looks just like the way Cold Steel marks their knives rather than the stamping Camillus normally used. The back of the main blade is stamped Carbon V as you can see. General consensus is it was made with blades left over from the Cold Steel run.

The scales are the same black synthetic as the Cold Steel knives and is better looking in person than I thought it would be. The jigging is medium deep and feels nice in the hand.

It is a perfect fit in the D.M. Bullard sheath I just bought and I have been carrying it for a couple of days now. Carried in this sheath it is not a pocket bulge and more comfortable than back pocket carry in the car. It is a snug fit but not difficult to draw at all. I have always liked the trapper pattern but carrying one daily wasn't always comfortable...now it is and I will probably be carrying this Camillus for awhile.

Probably some they had left from the production for ColdSteel, and just put their logo on when they were closing. (edit: I just reread your post, and saw, that you mentioned this already... sorry :o)

In any case, its a good lookin' knife for sure. Should serve you well.

I have a small Camillus stockman, also with Carbon V blades. It uses the same jigged delrin that my large Cold Steel Stockman has.

I'll try to post some pictures of it tonight.

You know this is just going to make me want to find one of each pattern marked Camillus but also marked Carbon V...lol. Just what I needed...another quest...

Thanks for sharing.

I always wanted to try one of Cold Steel's traditional patterns in Carbon V, but all my money went towards Spydercos and the first semblances of my Case collection in CV. Maybe I can find something cool like the Carbon V-marked Camilluses on the secondary market now. Keeping my fingers crossed. :D

Always wanted to try the Cold Steel versions but the price was too high for me. Maybe I should start scrounging the auction sites for some Camillus versions. Nice score!

Actually I am seeing some of the Cold Steel branded knives going for under what they sold for from dealers. I just bought a lock back for under 20 on bay...

Just a matter of keeping an eye open for them.

Nice looking trapper. That little peanut I got was only ten bucks. How can you beat it.

Well today I got a Cold Steel Lock back to keep my Camillus Carbon V company. Despite the Camillus trapper being made with leftover Cold Steel parts the difference in jigging is very obvious. And my lock back appears to be in distress as well...it is flying it's flag upside down!
