Does anyone know if there are any restrictions on the size/type of knife an officer flying on a B1 bomber can carry? I want order one as a gift for my nephew who is the navigation officer on a B1.

Thanks
Lynn

Lynn,

I'm no expert but if he's the Nav officer on a B1 I'm guessing nobody is going to tell him otherwise. My cousin was a pilot of a C-130 and as far as I know he could take anything within reason (he wanted my Large Sebenza until I told him what it costs). Those flight suits have lots of pockets...

My friend is a C-130 pilot and carries his CRK shadow 4 everywhere. He really likes that 5 1/2 inch spearpoint fixed blade.

What role would this knife fill? My C-130 pilot friend really likes a small knife for his flight suit and, tucs that big One Piece CRK in his boot.

Officers, especially pilots, typically don't have to put up with the same BS that us enlisted types have to. Pick whatever you want, but keep in mind that something smaller is going to be better than larger as there isn't all that much space on a person's gear, especially a pilots. The Shadow is a fine choice, as is most of the Chris Reeve line.

Think about a Randall as well...

Excellent response Spark.
I would like to add that something from the Fallkniven line might be suitable also.
The F1 or S1 are up to snuff for military work. They are not overly large, but work like they are. I wish I had them as options when I was doing my TOD.

Tell your nephew our prayers are with him and all his Brothers-In-Arms.

A medium size folder will probably work best. The B-1 bomber is not that large of an aircraft inside. I have been fortunate to get a crewchief to give me atour of one. Filght suits have a lot of pockets, but they are not that large, unlike BDU pockets. A folder will most likely work better than a fixed blade, easier to clip or stow in a pocket. I was a KC-10 crewchief for 9 1/2 years and am now serving in the NM Air Nat. Guard. While I'm not a pilot; I have flown all over the world as a crewchief, and have seen some of the gear
a pilot must have available to him. I would think a folder would just be more convienient, therefore carried instead of being left at home.
Just my $.02.
