Sorry if this tip is obvious to all, but over the years I've been frequenting these forums... this is one of the best and most simple tips I've seen for using a knife lanyard. I remember seeing it from someone else on the Wilderness & Survival forum and thought I'd revive it here for all you Hogs.

I like using brightly colored reflective cords because if I drop/lose a Busse, my intent is to recover it :) It takes a bit of trial and error to get the right length. This particular variety is Sterling Rope Co. GLOcord 2.75mm.

Here is a SJTAC showing the lanyard and placement around the thumb:

Here is what it looks like from the other side:

...and 'choked back' for more leverage:

I'd be interested in hearing whether anyone else uses lanyards this way, or if there are other variations that you've found useful.

There was one interesting variation a guy posted a while back somewhere regarding lanyard placement on a competition cutter. Anyone remember that one? I know he had the lanyard going through the center of the handle, handy considering the hollow tubes on a Busse. :) I was thinking of giving this set up a try on my SARsquatch, so if anyone has the link that might be useful. :D

I have a forward lanyard through the first hole of the handle on my FBMLE. I have it loose enough to slide my hand easily out and in, and if I really get to chopping, I give it a quick twist to tighten it. Really comes into it's own when you are chopping a lot, or snap cutting, it allows the lanyard to check the forward momentum of the blade without straining the wrist.

I have tied another knot right at the front to keep the lanyard from shifting back and forth when twisting.

Lanyard through the front handle or talon hole makes for an extremely secure grip

I'm going to have to give the forward hole method a try. The other thing I like about the one at the top is that the lanyard is easily removed without retying it.

I thought I remembered seeing something about not using a lanyard in the front hole because if the knife slipped it would spin like a propeller making for a good chance of doing alot of damage.
