I just received my new Todd Begg's Swine Slayer knife. I want everyones opinion if I should frame it, store it, or use it. I am usually one of those guys that likes to use everything I purchase no matter the price with one exception an Ontario Knife M-9 USSOCOM Commemorative (1 0f 500) Bayonet. Any help would be grateful.

Why wouldn't you use it? It's probably an excellent knife, and excellent knifes beg to be used.

Welcome to Bladeforums by the way! Longtime lurker, first time poster I presume?

If you have to ask, don't use it. Frame it, admire it and when the time comes, you'll either start using it or pass it on.

Use the damn thing! How else are you really going to enjoy it?

Better you put miles on it than someone else. At the end of the day, it's just a knife. A super premium knife, but a knife nonetheless.

I had a bunch of beauty queens and would put them on the coffee table or fondle them but never use them. Got sick of looking at them. Like having a Corvette you never drive. SO...early this year I sold them off.

WELCOME and CONGRATS on the purchase.

Curious ... why would you buy such an expensive knife without knowing what you intend to do with it?

If you have need of such a knife, hunting pigs for instance, and bought it with the intent of using it for that purpose... why not?

But I wouldn't go cutting or chopping stuff with it for the sole purpose of telling people I used it. :)

I mean no offense, and I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I just don't understand buying a knife and then asking a bunch of total strangers what you should do with it.

You didn't ask us if you should buy it, but you did buy it. Clearly you made that decision yourself. Now the knife is yours. And the only person who can decide what you should do with it is you.

You must have bought it for a reason. Did you buy it to use it? Or did you buy it to keep it pristine? No one knows your mind better than you.

This post inspired me to make a video...

I think, and I could be way off base here, that the OP wants to use it. This post is simply rationalization for the purchase. He's seeking a push to do what he already wants. I do this often when making spendier purchases, or talking myself into using them. I have to explain to myself why I want it and that I only busted my butt for X amount of hours to purchase it. Etc. Lucky for me I have a semi understanding woman in my life who, much to her dismay, helps me avoid making posts like these.

Op, use it, it's only money and you only get one lifetime to enjoy your toys.

Funny that this comes up tonight, I just discovered Todd Begg on Facebook a few hours ago. I say use it as I do with any knife. And where the beck are the pics?!?!?!

Use it with pride, Tremors. You will honor yourself and the maker.

Using that knife on hogs will create memories that will be with you until you die and that no one can ever take from you. A knife like that will not depreciate much at all if anything with some use if well maintained but your memories will only go up in value as you age.

While I like guns and knives I'm not one for displaying them around my house. Yes they might be found laying on the dresser or night stand but that's from alternating carrying them, not for display purposes. If you already have knives on display in your house then maybe that knife would be appropriate for display. If you love the knife and plan to keep it for ever then use it at will, as resale value means nothing if you intend to keep it. If you think you might need or want to sell it in the future then just store it in the safe until you sell it. There are plenty of other things to kill wild hogs with, preferably a 308. Really, you must have bought the knife with some intended purpose in mind. It seems quite expensive to use for a "beater" seems more like a collection piece knife to me.
Best of luck.
