Found at a wonderful shop near Ada Oklahoma - and I knew it was a mess when I got it - but it needed a new home and the price was right. I am not done cleaning it, but found the markings "US Pat Off" as shown. (originally thought it was "011"!). Plan is to clean, sharpen and rehang. Past that - not sure at all!

This might sound strange but that wedge looks familiar. I believe someone posted about it in the strange things used as wedges thread. It was designed to shave wood using those holes to help keep the wedge in I believe.

Dont want to sound like a downer but i highly doubt that you can bring this axe back into action, the major chip combiner with the crooked looking eye (photo illusion maybe?) would worrie me. not saying to not restore it, just saying i would think twice before using it after restoration.

As for restoration - not so much to "restore" as to learning/practicing on a real axe to see what I can do with metal and wood. Think the eye is fine and the offset is more camera related. And - how does one get that chip - should be a law against axe abuse!

I think I saw the reference to the wedge - will go back and look. I do know it was a real booger to get out!

love the junk you pulled outta the eye. i have a sardine can full of the stuff
