Recently I have purchased a Sebenza (for my father) and a Mnandi (for my brother) off the forums intended to be Christmas presents...however they are both birthdated in 2006. The Seb I will be sending in to the spa to get a factory edge and new lanyard, but is in great shape. The Mnandi I havent received yet but it looks to be in excellent condition. I did this to save a few bucks (Im a college student and had to work my butt off to afford them :D) My father and brother arent knife nuts, but they appreciate quality tools and craftsmanship...I guess my question is would yall be concerned about a knife that was dated to be made in 2006? If not, would that be a concern even if you werent necessarily a knife nut? I figure it wont be a concern when they get to experience the quality of these knives :D Anyways, I just wanted to get yalls opinion, Thanks ;)

I was recently gifted a used Sebenza that was from back in 2000 and I was still tickled pink with it. I actually prefer the older knives my self as do a few of the CRK people it would seem. :)

I think if they appreciate quality tools, they will appreciate the CRKs. If anything the birthdate gives you the opportunity to explain the quality and realiability of CRK to them and maybe even get them hooked. If nothing else, it is an extremely generous gift, especially from someone in college. To answer your overall question, no I wouldn't worry.

Those are great gifts! In my opinion they won't even notice the birthdate card if they aren't knife nuts. It will probably just look like a warranty card to non knife folk - and nobody reads those anyways :p

Put me on your Christmas list too, I want a startac Umnumzaan :D

I wouldn't be concerned at all. It wouldn't matter when it was made. I've got several from various years, used and new in box. All well made so when it was made is irrelevant. I even have several of the same model made over the span of years and there's really no difference.
I'd carry one made in 2000, 2006 or one that was made today. It makes no difference in use.
They'll make great gifts.

How do I join your family so I can get gifts like this? ;)

I doubt I will ever get a CRK as a gift ( unless I gift myself with one :) ). My family thinks any knife over $20-$30 is too much. But would I like one as a gift, heck yeah !!!

That's very generous of you to gift such a fine knife. If the birthdate card really concerns you could always just pull it(save it for them). If they aren't knife nuts they probably don't even know there should be a birth card. It's a sort of strange tradition -of selling the knives used with box, birthcard and tool. From watching the DVD it seemed Chris picked the box because it was cheap and expected people to throw them away. In any case I would love for someone to gift me a used CRK. I have thought about gifting them to friends, but none of my friends would appreciate one(they like to buy their knives at the flea market)

I bought user small Sebbie a few months back. As soon as I got it I decided it wasn't what I wanted because I wanted a double thumbstud version, so I gave it to a good friend exactly like I got it. She didn't bat an eye about the scratches, and has since added a few of her own.

I gave one each to my brothers a few years back. Neither are knife nuts, both respect nice things. One thought it was awesome, carries it everywhere, etc. The other was kind of like "oh, a knife, you're strange." Kind of a waste of a few hundred bucks. *shrug* I also got my dad a Busse Game Warden one year, it'd be great for the outdoor stuff he does, but he never carries it. I decided no more expensive knives for presents. :) That being said, I've heard some good stories too, so I hope it works out better for you. Definitely a nice thing to do.

That is very generous of you to work so hard to get them such fine gifts.

They'll love them:thumbup:
