Hey guys I have been looking at the Emerson Gentleman Jim lately and I think I want it as my first Emerson. I love the blade shape and how small it is. I live in Canada so we are not aloud to carry a knife for defence and some of the other bigger Emersons can be questionable so I think this ones perfect.

The thing is with the holidays coming up I don't think I can spend the full amount on a one. I just cant do it I need to start saving money for Christmas presents.

So my question to you guys is What do you think the price would/should be for a used Emerson Gentleman Jim without boxes or papers. Here is the one I'm looking at. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/NM-2011-EMER...ves&hash=item3f1f6d13a9&_uhb=1#ht_5955wt_1163

Also Im relatively knew to the forums and Dont really understand the used knife buying thing yet, I'm wasnt sure what the best place was to look for one so I check Ebay first.

Thanks, -Liam

Well, the 7.50 it is at currently would be a steal... In that condition I'd probably pay around 150 for one. If size is a concern though, I think you might be surprised how large the blade is on the GJ. It may be narrow, but it is certainly not short.

Not really Short is what im going for, but less mean looking, I mean I can legally carry a Kabar with me anytime but its just much easier not to get looks from the sheeple and the cops asking me why I have it all the time.

Bassically anything thats scary enough is illegal in Canada..

Scary is a highly subjective term, and varies from one person to the next. The person selling the knife in your link doesn't list it anywhere near correct (in my view). That is enough of a red flag for me to pass.

^ Haha right? "...LOCKBACK... DIRK DAGGER..."!

Must admit I do love my Gentleman Jim. Real nice lines on that guy... but in relation, the first friend I showed it to commented, "Oooh that looks stabby."
Not really the response I was envisioning but I get it haha

Ok yea I understands that the sale I linked might not be the best one, and Im not even going to bid, I was just wondering what you guys think one in that condition would be worth?

Or do you guys think I should just save up a little longer wait till after new years and my birthday (Jan21) and then buy a new one?

Well, I paid 220 for mine... so naturally I would consider anything significantly less to be a bit of a score. Sometimes, certain Emersons are hard to come by, and that fact may play a role in buying judgement. At the same time, it can be comforting to know that we are the original owner of a blade-- and anything that's happened to it is obviously from our own usage. Conversely, I have no reservations with buying used either if the condition is reasonable in relation to the asking price. Sorry, I haven't followed prices of Gentleman Jims outside of typical websites, so I'm afraid to suggest an actual price that should be jumped on. Just wanted to share some thoughts. Good luck Liam!
