Does anyone have any idea of any place that carries used equipment. I'm looking for a belt grinder for knife making.
To all forum readers: I am new to this forum. I've been playing with making knives for several years and have been moving toward becoming more serious about it. I have enjoyed looking through some of your post and have picked up some good info. Just looked at someone who robbed his wife's exercise bike and made a belt grinder out of it. Now that is ingenuity.

Used equipment is extremely rare, it normally happens only when someone dies. I say that because nobody ever retires from kifemaking, it's too much fun.

Most makers have built their own grinders. Its not as hard as you may think and is very satisfying. I suggest you use varible speed (requires a DC motor or step pulleys) with 2x72" belts. There is a DC 1 1/2 hp motor on ebay I see. One of mine is a homemade one: 1 hp varible speed with a 14" wheel. Total cost was about $800. Bruce B
