I know a lot of you guy's have bought the BaderIII recently and everyone say's they love it. I have an opportunity to purchase a used, but excellent condition BaderII. It has a 2HP motor and has several different size drive wheels, fork arm, platen, etc.

What would a fair price be for this grinder?

To me excellent condition means that all the parts are there, and it's ready for use. If it's the Bader that I'm thinking of....... I would expect in the $500-$700 range. It might be worth more or less than that, but I'm also one of those folks that will pay more for something if I can really use it. I would certainly want to see it run, and even grind on it, just to make sure all is well. The biggest problem I have seen on used baders is the tracking arm getting sloppy, it's not tough to repair, but if you don't know what to look for, it can be a frustrating problem to figure out.

40 to 60 percent of new is a good ball park figure. as Ed said, you realy need to look closely at the machine and grind on it to be sure it's what you want. The 2hp baderII is a work horse when it's running correctly.

i have a bader that has served me well for over 15 years...finally burned out the 2hp motor a few years back...cost over $400 for a new one!!!!!!! had to get the same one for the mounting screws....i think i paid $750 for it new. then plenty more for extra wheels etc. never needed a new spring...it wants to wander ...but you can lock it down, i have a square wheel with a variable speed so i just use this for a hog off machine. works really good for that...not the best, but you can make it work well for you.

you should get a list of the extras and add up how much they cost..that could be a big savings right there.

Thanks guy's. I have seen it run and worked on. It has all the attachments, plus the 11" platen, and the extra drive wheels, etc. It is about 4 yrs old and was VERY well taken care of. It has no tracking problems. The owner wants $700 max., maybe less, I don't know for sure yet. If it is $700, would it be a good buy? A new BaderIII set up the same would be around $1500.

Tom I am interested in purchasing a Square Wheel Grinder and I have noticed it is in many industrial catalogs such a Granger. Since its not a knife specific belt grinder like the Burr King and the Hard Core grinder it should be easier to find a square wheel used than the others. Does anyone know of any companies that sell these grinder used or something along these lines.

Jim,
Don't know if the sale is still on, but not too long ago Mick at Koval Knives had them on special for less than $800, new! I have worked on every grinder that is available, and if for no other reason than their easy of change over, and durability, I like the Wilton machine.
